Hope in a Red State
let me tell y'all what happenned to me in Cobb County Georgia this morning.

I was waiting in my docotor's office, and i struck up a conversation with 3 elderly white southerners. One man and his wife, and another lady. The conversation started with TV - the man asked me if i watched a lot of TV - he said it was bad, because they were trying to get us not to think.

Then the next thing he said was, it's probably exactly what they want, so that we won't focus on this war....and then the other lady chimed in about how the wra was just a mess, and next thing you know we all got into this conversation about the war, us as occupiers, how the insurgents are doing exactly what us americans would do in that position, social security, aarp, USAnext, the clinton years, gas prices, outsourcing, how jobs were in the old days, how goods were in the old days, the trade deficit with China, walmart and how the only thing we could do is vote in as many opposition party members as possible in 2006. also, both the couple and the lady by herself surprised me by saying Hillary would make a great president, and they'd definitely vote for her.

I was utterly shocked and amazed by the time i went in to my appointment. when i came out, i saw them all still there, and wished them a great day. as i was leaving the single lady said to - "Have a great day and make sure you vote Democrat!"

i have been grinning all day.

1. I also live in Cobb County
Marietta, to be exact... Yes that conversation is extremely amazing for Cobb County... given the fact that about 95% of people here are rethuglicans.

I also got into a political conversation this weekend in a bar on Canton Rd...Needless to say it was not as pleasant as yours... we actually almost got thrown out, it became so heated.

Don't expect a repeat anytime soon though.

4. Yeah this
was in Smyrna int he Emory Adventist office buildings.

in any case, i think they felt the same way, because the wife did try to tell her husband not to discuss this stuff when he first started talking. i hate living with this paranoia.

8. I live in Tucker, GA
my neighborhood is very Bushie...except we're seeing more and more Dem. signs than in the past. My husband got into a similar conversation waiting at the car garage a few weeks ago. He was pleasantly surprised to find like minds when he really wasn't expecting them. I think people have been cowed by the whole "we're at war...don't be unpatriotric" head games the Bushies play. And, now, people are speaking up.
It's about time.

2. Great Story!...You know, the thing that amazes me is.....
...I have my own little Computer repair & networking service (Me) and I visit with different people all day long. By a 7 to 1 margin, folks tell me how they voted Democratic in the last election. That's why I'm convinced that the election was stolen here...(Florida) ..Just WAY to many of the people I meet are against Bush.

3. Pockets do exist
I found them in gaming stores (till they went out of biz), UU chuchs (very nice, helpful folks), and Internet. There is hope. Once they lose more jobs, health insurance, and savings, they will see Reps as what they are: fascists.

6. How long did you wait?
That's quite a list of things to talk about!

People have to wake up eventually (I hope!)

7. That's exactly what the
elderly gentleman said, several times - "people are gonna have to wake up..."

and I waited about a half hour. which wasn't that long in retrospect, but when like minds find each other int he wilderness, i think you chater as much as you can in the time you have. *lol*
