Didn't we make Social Security because the Great Depression?
So how much sense does it make to sell it to the private sector that brought us the very problem we created Social Security to fix? Additionally, does anyone know how many Republicans supported SSA? Any?

1. What is important to remember is the definion of SS
We had an economic downturn where there was a crisis for the American citizen, thus, the birth of SS. Because we feel a need to take care of those ill and without jobs, we taxed ourselves to do so. Many of us felt it was our Christian duty. Bush has done away with all that. Bush is No Christian as far as I can ascertain. I never read in the Bible that the poor shall be downtrodden so the rich may profit. But that's what he has done to the poor in this country.

2. You make a good point. Bush seems to have forgotten his history.

History is full of FACTS, and this fact about SS needs to be repeated loudly and clearly.

As someone said earlier last night on DU, Why would we want to trust all our money again to the stock market, when the crash of '29 was caused by it, thus creating the need for SS in the first place???

That would be tantamount to the Drug Administration trying to convince the public that the cure for cancer is to ingest more carcinogens. It makes about that much sense.
