Ray Taliaferro on KGO
I've nver been able to stay up till 2 a.m. when Ray T. goes on the air my time. Tonight I decided to listen to some of his show via the new KGO archives. He's great. And he probably has one of the best radio voices ever. Just sayin'. Here's the url to the archives. They keep the programs up for 24 hours after the shows. His is the 1 a.m. slot Pacific Time. http://www.kgoam810.com/listingsEntry.asp?ID=263588&PT=Archives

1. I listen almost every night
I've lost a lot of sleep listening to Ray. I think he is the best liberal talk show host there is, and I've listened to pretty much all of them.

2. Ive been listening to Ray since god was a teenager, as Mike Malloy
likes to say! Did you know Ray is a native San Franciscan and is active in local city politics! Ray is totally awesome. I listen to him every night. If you are ever lucky enough to hear HB from Oakland call in, pay special attention!

3. I too am a Rev Ray fan! =o)
I like HB too. I get a kick out of Sheldon as well. Not gettin' much sleep these days either.

Ever since the 2000 stolen election, I've had KGO with Bernie, Ray, Karel, (sometimes Gene and Rothmann) on nearly non stop.

Yes, Ray is a native activist from San Fran. Don't you LOVE his bumper music too? During calmer times, he lets go with some of his favorite musical artists and it just sends me.... :loveya:

I write in to him every so often. He reads what some people send to him now and then..that's pretty cool.

I'm loosing SO much sleep now though that I'm thinking of buying that C.CRANE recording gizmo for the radio (works on all radios)

Cheers to fellow Ray Fans! :toast:

5. To Ray!
:toast:

Ben in Salinas is my favorite regular caller, but I like HB and Sheldon, too.

I live in Portland, 600 miles north, and KGO booms in every night.

7. Ben in Salinas is very tight in his logic and analysis
Garret is another one that brings a lot of wisdom to the program...

9. Hail ye Portland!!
Monterey Bay area here. I LOVE it when people call in from all over the place.

I have to keep reminding myself that while he's on late night for us, it's morning in Europe. Very interesting stuff sometimes...

13. Thanks!
I'm going to try and catch ray's archives a little bit every day with morning coffee. It's nice to be able to push past the news, traffic, weather and dead air time on the archives and get to the talk portions. Cuts down on the time.

It really is great having so many more choices these days even if they aren't all local for me here in Colorado. Seems like everywhere is local these days. I even kind of like the traffic and weather when listening to Bernie's nightly program. I remember when they were having some layoffs of station staff and Bernie announced it. He talked about the long faces around the studio and I felt so bad. Then, after a while, I think the people got rehired. The familiar voices were back and sounded so happy.

4. When the last left wing talk show left San Diego radio.

I bought a C. Crane radio and got up every night at 1 a.m. to listen to Ray.

For years, he was the only voice of reason I had access to on the air. More recently I got a computer, and then Air America Radio came (at least in part) to San Diego.

But Ray Taliaferro was there when nobody else was. Sure I could listen to shortwave, but Ray was right here in the U.S.A. If he didn't save my life, he surely saved my sanity.

10. How's that radio working out for you SC?
We bought one also. Now want to get the recorder to go with it.

Lately, we've been experiencing some horrible, screeching interference from someplace that completely drowns out programing. It only interrupts KGO and stations on the San Fran penninsula. We live on Monterey Bay just over the coastal range from San Francisco; we've had no problem with reception until the last couple months. Can't figure it out.

Called the power company to complain, asked the neighbors if they bought a lava lamp or something (:eyes:). I've got a sneaking hunch; There is a military/Lockheed installation on the mountain top, perhaps that is what's interferring with reception coming this way--makes me wonder what they could be doing up there...hmmmm. It even effects the car radio when on KGO in the daytime too. No interference to any other stations that broadcast from east or south of us. Very frustrating. Hubby is about to blow a gasket as he listens to KGO on his C.Crane radio while in bed. I listen to it while I'm in here.

The only option I have now is to pull up KGO via the internet...thank goodness for that. But hells bells, this has to get fixed PDQ. WE NEED OUR FIX.

29. I didn't know there was a recorder until just reading this thread.

Sounds like a good idea. I'll have to get a new catalog and see how much they cost.

Not much interference here, but when I lived near a Navy base there was quite a bit.

35. Yes, a recorder is available. It's a little pricy but it works
so that once you've recorded the show (if I remember correctly) you can play it back on your car stereo for example (Don't hold me to that) or playback on the recorder itself. Pretty nifty in any case. I thought recording would be a terrific way to "share" these programs with those persons who desperately "needed to hear the truth" (heehee)

You can look up c.crane online also..don't have to wait for catalogue.

Good luck :hi:

30. Well, it was for me, at the time.

I paid about $150 and the most expensive radio I'd ever had before was $20.00. But for $20 I could listen to Limpballs, and for $150 I got Ray, so it was definitely worth it.

Nowadays I use it to listen to my local pirate stations. I don't have the aerial that came with it up, but the little extension aerial works fine if I point it in the right direction.

This one is shortwave, so I can get radio Canada and Australia, but I'm in San Diego and can't get most Los Angeles stations. Maybe I just don't know where to look for them, or I'd need the other aerial. I had it run up the mast and left it on the boat when I sold the boat and moved ashore. They're pretty cheap though--I think it was about $15.

6. Reverend Ray maintains another website...
that had some of the craziest, funniest call of the day stuff archived. I can't find the archived stuff (Hey it was years worth of nuggets) but there is one 'raybyte' and one 'call of the day' still there.

http://www.raytal.com/raybyte10-16-2003.mp3 (outstanding 'raybyte')

send my emails to him via [email protected] I'll have to go back and check out his site. Thanks

And yes, sometimes he has me bent over CRACKING up with the "come backs" etc.. I told my daughter one night (she's new to this radio addiction I have :))..after a caller called in from the "other side" to rant on Ray..I told her to just listen while he TAKES THE GUY APART. And he did.

12. There's the rub...
There used to be an archive of the 'call of the day'...you know 3-5 minute highlight soundbite mp3 file thing of the idiots that try to argue with Ray. Now, the raytal.com archive link directs you to the KGO radio program archive. Sadly, I think the 'call of the day' archives fell into the memory hole. But believe me, there were some real gems there, and a lot of them I remember hearing live. Heck, I've been a fan of Ray for decades, he never grows stale.

Oh, Brother Bernie's show just started...bye! ;)

I'll check these out! Mike Malloy has some great regular callers, too. Someone, I think Ben Burch, put together a "best of" Mike when he was off the air for a while when ieAmerica went belly up. I think it's available to listen to at his site.

Yep.

I listen from Idaho.
Using crappy old coventional radio, Ive heard them as far North as the San Juan Islands, and as far East as Park City Utah. Most nights they come in okay. Sometimes not so good.

Do those C.Crane radios work?

15. When Ray breaks down and tells us about himself...
Edited on Wed Mar-02-05 01:30 AM by BuyingThyme
I am always amazed.

He's met everybody from Ray Charles to Martin Luther King.

But my favorite Ray story was about the postcards he used to receive from the late Ansel Adams. But the postcards which Ansel sent to Ray weren't postcards at all -- they were simply original Ansel Adams photographs which he snatched from his huge arsenal and used as makeshift stationary. (Ansel was a RayTal fan and an activist.)

Can you imagine such a thing? Your very own, personalized, hand-signed, Ansel Adams collection?

Amazing.

I'm listenng to the second hour of last night's program right now. He was just saying that Cheney is just "sitting on his fat ass" making tons of money via Halliburton in Iraq. Ray just rolled it off so calmly that I could have easily missed it. I'm an instant fan.

Serious topic that he sent some flames to. He bet people they wouldn't challenge him on THIS one. "We've now restarted the Arms race"

Geeeeez, he was ON FIRE. He was so pissed. He CRACKS me up with his innuendo; had me spewing my beverage over the keyboard at one point:

'Putin has a BIG ONE'and 'Bush is pulling his out over behind the barn there in Crawford'.... (Missiles)

So glad to know all of you fellow Ray Fans....

BTW, isn't Ray also a lover of gardening and an accomplished pianist/musician?
