1. A government collapse triggered by a terrorist attack?
Yeah, I guess Bush could try to spin that as a victory. There's no limit to the bizarre nonsense his handlers can make him spew.

2. Of course, they will claim victory
and the media will play along. Of course, no one will remember how the entire continent of South America became democratized without the loss of one U.S. life when Clinton was in office.

4. If you tie it all together....
Lebanon is part of the Israeli/Palestinian problem because fo the Hezbollah. Iran is part of the Axis of Evil because of their support for the Hezbollah and other terrorists. Our propaganda campaign against Iran is part of the war in Iraq. Our badmouthing Russia is part of their support for Iran...etc..etc...

5. Although Syria was already removing troops under a prior agreement,

the black bag job that the US/Israel pulled in this assassination has to be given credit for getting Syria out. I don't think Syria was behind this assassination because it would have been of no benefit to them and would work against them just as it has. But all people want to run their own country and the Lebanese are no different. They once had a beautiful and friendly country just as Iraq had decades ago. Once invaded by foreigners who have no allegiance to the culture or beauty of the country they are invading, the country is ransacked and physically destroyed. Look at what is has happened to the Palestinian territories under Israeli occupation: infrastructure torn up, homes demolished, cultural and religious treasures looted and destroyed. In this respect, invaders and occupiers are all alike and the US is chief among them.

6. ABCNews was saying as much last night
Terry Moran reported to Peter Jennings (name the names of the collaborators whenever possible is my policy) that the White House was trumpeting the resignation of the Lebanese PM as a victory for pro-democracy forces inspired by the stirring rhetoric of Stupidhead, and had a clip of Stupidhead from the Governors' Convention taking personal credit for the bravery of the Lebanese people.

Neither Moran (who's usually good) nor Jennings (spineless corporate mouthpiece) evinced much skepticism that Bush was entitled to be called the new father of modern Lebanon.
