WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Bush administration plans to begin Arab-language satellite-television broadcasts to Europe later this year in a new escalation of its information war against Islamic extremism, officials say.

Three-and-a-half years after Islamic militants based in Germany helped mount the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, U.S.-backed TV channel Alhurra expects to transmit 24-hour programing to European Muslim communities seen as potential breeding grounds of extremism.

France and Germany, which have Western Europe's largest Muslim populations, would be a special focus for news and current affairs programs intended to promote an American ethic of free speech and open debate, officials say.

"The 9/11 hijackers came largely from Europe. It's a significant gap that we were not broadcasting in Arabic to Europe," said Kenneth Tomlinson, chairman of the Broadcasting Board of Governors, the U.S. agency in charge of U.S. civilian TV and radio broadcasts overseas.

turn off their TV sets unfortunately. To-day I'm thinking all is lost. I just see absolutely no hope to-day. The future looks terribly bleak.

Among the worst for me is that the people won't even see how terrible it is for a very long time - as long as they have some kind of "food" (cheap stuff with a lot of chemicals) on the table and a TV set running. And I'm willing to bet that the poor will get cheap energy - NOT so they can cook decent meals or anything but only so they can keep the damn TV sets running.

I'm actually crying right now.

The average American brain is mush, or something resembling scrambled eggs. No critical thinking skills are taught to the masses leaving them very vulnerable to the insidious propaganda pumped into their skulls 24/7.

When I lived in Brasil, I saw that Rede Globo TV was in every home, even in mud huts in the sertão and Amazonas. Can you imagine? Little mud houses with satelite dishes on top and a TV in the middle of the house, where the family gathers to watch ONE channel every night. I noticed that families don't communicate or converse but instead watch telenovelas until bedtime... sick. It's a fucking plague.
