BREAKING: Clark will have some big time support!!!
. . .I am on a conference call of Clark coordinators around the country as I type this and there are two Democratic United States Congressmen on the call as we speak singing General Clark's praises. I am going to wait until the call is over to say anything, but to me this is huge. I can guarantee that you have heard of at least one of them.

I am going to be careful because I want to make sure this is not a hoax. . .but this is huge! I hope you appreciate my caution because I don't want to have to retract if this is a hoax, but this is huge.

10. I disagree ...
I think that Dean has peaked. He has his natural constituency and has secured the support of that base. I do not think he can or will expand much beyond that. I could be wrong, I could be right. Who can say? We're still a long way away from a single vote being cast and I am not foolish enough to make predictions based only upon what I want to happen.

If Clark enters the race, it becomes a 3 man race: Kerry, Clark, and Dean. I think the odds reflect the candidates, too. Roughly 1 in 3 for each.

Edited on Wed Sep-10-03 09:07 PM by Pepperbelly
although your last post seemed even cheaper. But I suppose it is a matter of social group. The group with which I travel puts a high priority on personal respect and courtesy.

on edit: when I posted the original thought, I provide some rationale for the conclusion I had reached. Rather than engaging on my rationale, you asked if I couldn't come up with a new line. Do you not see how that is in no way even clashed with what I wrote? Rather, it was purely and only an oblique attack by implying that it was a "line" and was somehow shopworn. That is not discourse. That is engaging in unresponsive non sequiter. IOW, a cheap shot.

50. I do not belong to any "Clark" groups and ...
your tone is insulting. I always despise being insulted by someone on the internet because internet insults are ultimately such cowardly things. Ensconced in safety in front of a monitor, tap-tap-tapping on the little keys, all safe and free from any consequence and saying things that most people do not say in normal intercourse precisely because they do not have the safety of the anonymity.

Rather than engaging in that and appearing as an internet blowhard and telephone tough guy with someone so ... new, I will consider putting you on ignore. Unless you begin adding something of value and stop posting so childishly, that is where you will end up.

8. If Clark decides to run,
I guarantee you there is a lot of support, money, etc. coming his way fast. Otherwise, he would not have waited. He would have either been in in the beginning to start raising money and getting his name out OR he would have outright said he isn't going to run. I think Clinton and the DNC have put a nice package together for him.

whats the big deal about having two Representitives on this conference call? I'm sure there are more than a few congress people out there who would like to see Clark run. Unless these two are there as emissaries from Sen. Clinton & her husband its no big deal.

If thats's what are trying to get out just say it, otherwise this "i've got a secret" stuff is silly. Either you can say it or you can't, there's no in between.

Congress is almost as crucial as the White House for the renewal the country needs. Even people themselves are crucially important, witness the draft movement.

Clark can bring the Congress. Shrub can suffer the worst defeat in US history.

The following link is to the TNR debate regarding Clark and Dean. It is a very reasoned set of posts which never reaches flame status; moreover, it provides some information that I found interesting and think some folks here will too:

snip.....

On Kosovo, you say that Clark didn't outplay Cohen badly enough. This may be true. But he sacrificed himself for the sake of stopping a genocidal maniac. I don't know about you, but I kinda like that in my politicians.

snip......

You say that the establishment can't rally around Clark, because it's already committed to other candidates. This simply isn't the case. For the last few months, legendary kingmaker Gerald McEntee, the head of AFSCME, has been flirting hard with Clark. There is a raft of Clintonites who haven't thrown their lot with any campaign, including the Man from Hope himself. (Bruce Lindsey has been spotted driving around Little Rock with a Draft Clark bumper sticker. What can we read into that?) I'm told that Hillary's finance chair Alan Patricof has been dying to raise bank for Clark. You say that all the good operatives have been sucked up by other campaigns. But everyday I run into highly regarded Democratic talents who are itching to move to Little Rock--Little Rock, I repeat--to toil for Clark.

my favorite snip....

By reputation, he is a highly anal planner. Trust me, he won't be winging this.

For Dr. Dean's supporters there is plenty of argument for his case as well in the set of posts.

Like Dean, we really dont know everything about Clark. Some general soundbytes and cliches sound fine, but when the rubber hits the road where will Clark stand.

When the heat gets really hot will have fight for the right principles.

Lets find out more about Clark. I fear Clark will draw support from people who project an image they want in a President. For Clark it would be the anti-thesis of Bush in the matters of military leadership and smarts. No doubt Clark is a brilliant man and a distinguished military leader and this attracks a lot of Dems to him because we aren't known as the party of people like Clark.
