Alan Alda Nails it RE: Republicans!
Edited on Mon Feb-14-05 11:02 AM by romantico
Harry Smith interviewed Alan Alda yesterday on Sunday Morning. Harry asked Alda about how he is so liberal, yet this year he is playing 2 Republicans (one in 'The Aviator' & the other on 'The West Wing')Alda asked Harry why that was so difficult for people believe? No one questioned him when he played a murder. So then, Alda gave the best quote!

"If I can play a murder I sure as hell can play a Republcian!" Harry Smith & Alda just lost & laughed! It was awsome! I hope its repeated.

3. I'm reminded of Sir John Gielgud
When asked how he can play straight characters he replied, "I'm an actor, of course I can play straight."

4. That was a GREAT interview!!!
I clicked in after it had begin, and they were showing shots from his early acting days, and for a moment, I thought, "Oh God! Don't tell me Alan Alda died!!!" I was relieved to find he's still alive and well! The way they do the retrospectives to honor recently deceased entertainers, it always spooks me to see a piece on someone living!

And I LOOOOVED that quote!:-) I  Alan Alda

5. I thought it was something like Star Trek's "Mirror, Mirror"
Spock (in the "real" reality) points out that he immediately figured out the "alternate" Kirk & company.

Eloquently stated, Spock said: "It is much easier for a civilized man to act like a barbarian than the other way around . . ."

6. I LOVED Alda in Woody Allen's
"Everybody Says I Love You" where he played a liberal father dealing with his Freeper son (played by Lucas Haas)Turns out there was something wrong with the son where not enough oxygen was getting to the brain, as the Doctor explains to Alda. The Doctor said to ALda's charahcter, 'So if your son has been acting a bit irrational or deranged, thats why". Alda looked SO relieved. It was hysterical! Go rent it!Alda & Goldie Hawn play guilty Liberals. They are both very funny!

Alda's portrayal of the US President is hilarious.

9. The funny thing is that Alda plays a nice Republican on West Wing.
His character is Arnie Vinick, a Republican Senator from California. Republican though he be, he's probably the most honorable and straight-shooting politician on the show, after Bartlet. If the Republicans nominated guys like him, they wouldn't be half bad (though they'd also win all the time). Instead they fill the party with mini-Bushes.

10. Well, in the interview
Alda said soemthing about the blue states & the red states. How we've become divided, that we're Americans first & foremost. I really love the guy! He also said he has zero chance of winning Best Supporting Actor. He seemd VERY humble just to be nominated. Seems like he's getting more offers now than ever.

11. We Always Wanted Alan to Run for Governor of NJ
I think it was the Bergen County town of Leonia, where he and the family lived for decades. I'm not sure if they're still living in our Garden State, though.
