SUGGESTION: Put a Warning for Photos in your Subject Line
Edited on Sun Feb-13-05 11:46 AM by Stop_the_War
Sometimes people put disgusting pictures, I wish they would warn people. Much like people put "n/t" to warn people that there is no text, perhaps people could start putting "photos" or "pics" to warn people. PLEASE I'M BEGGING YOU PUT A DAMN WARNING IN YOUR SUBJECT LINE, BECAUSE I'VE ABOUT HAD IT WITH THESE DISGUSTING PICTURES AND I AM TIRED OF VOMITING BECAUSE OF THEM!!!

Thanks in advance.

1. (You can set your browser to show text only if you don't like pictures)
Otherwise, you just have to take the good with the bad.

3. I've never seen any pictures that warrant a warning. Any offensive
picture you saw should be reported to the administration. I'm sure they would agree to delete any offensive thread.

Most people warn about links to offensive pictures, but they don't post offensive pictures on DU threads. That is despicable and I'm sure everyone here would agree with you.

4. Triggering images
I agree, and not out of some kind of censorship thing. The war pictures in particular, pictures of adults and children badly wounded and dead, could easily be triggers for flashbacks, anxiety, and panic. This goes not only for people who have experienced combat, but also for people who have experienced a bad car accident, a natural disaster, or even a violent crime, domestic abuse, or child abuse. Those images of people helpless and in pain may be very moving for people who can look at them, but a warning would be the kind thing to do for people who cannot.

For example - I have a bad time looking at pictures of bodies that have been burned, which comes up in the combat pictures a lot. In order not to spiral down into a really ugly mental state, I have to almost disconnect after looking at something like that, into an unpleasant state of numbness. It's pretty specific, but it does occasionally come up. For that reason I empathize deeply with Stop_The_War and other people who cannot see the disgusting pictures without throwing up.

Heck, even at Renderosity, artists' images in the galleries carry warnings about violence so that people who do not want to see violence do not accidentally stumble onto it. There's no harm in showing others here the same consideration.
