Republicans for Dean
Republicans for Dean

September 09, 2003

Explanations:

A lot has happened today and I feel the need to clear up some misconceptions. Earlier today, Howard Kurtz of the Washington Post gave the blog a mention today. It was nice to get some good press and spread the message. There was some controversy later in the day when Steve, my co-blogger, wrote in response to the Post story. Steve is a good asset to the Dean Campaign and I was happy to have him as a partner. However, in this case his words were poorly chosen. Then, later in the day Andrew Sullivan wrote and entry that potrayed this site as nothing more than a front. I recieved a few comments saying the same thing. This is not true. This site is written by a moderate Republican who lives in Minneapolis. The goal of this site is twofold: to be a place for disillusioned Republicans who are interested in the Dean Campaign and to make the case as to how Dean adheres to Republican principles such as fiscal responsibility, limited government and national security in ways that the present adminstration does not. It is my fault that I did not stress that to Steve or make that know to those who read this blog. I want this to be a place where one can be critical of President Bush, without descending into incivility.

I also want to make it clear that this is a Republican blog. Many of the people that I have been in contact with are registered Republicans and have voted for Republicans in the past. Many of us supported President Bush. However, we have become dismayed at some his policies that betray conservative principles and also put America on the wrong track. We believe that there are times you must put the good of the nation above party affiliation and many of us believe that Howard Dean is the best choice to lead the nation. We will still continue to be Republicans, voting for GOP candidates and working in various Republican groups, but we will also work with Democrats in for a better nation. We don't see eye-to-eye on all issues, but we are all Americans concerned with the direction of the country and that allows us to all join hands.

2. A Republican PAC gave to Dean; and Dean happily accepted:

NATIONAL PAC INC AKA NAT PAC $5000 to Dean on 3/11/03

NatPac has given to: Hastert, Delay, Ashcroft,
L.Graham, Newt Gingrich, Bill Frist, Saxby Chambliss, Dick
Armey! And select dems like Ben Nelson and Joe
Lieberman)

and to, DRUM ROLL: George BUSH $5000 in May
2003.

NatPac gave $5000 to Saxby Chambliss of GA in
fall 2002. IF you are following the GA voting fraud
stories..... Saxby won with some pretty funky voting
numbers; historically dem precincts went total republican in 2002. Very funky!

4. Maybe I am mixing it up with another southern state. Sorry.

But it doesn't diminish the voting problems in Georgia, does it?

And it doesn't dissolve the issue that this PAC supported Saxby AND Dean, does it? That was the point of my post.

6. Yes, there is a fine line between dems and repubs
and those dems, other than Hillary, are all deeply entrenched beltway dems. For ex: Intel Pac gives to incumbent dems in the states where it has facilities. But it always gives to challenging republicans. It rewards the reps (dems or repubs) who have "served" Intel well. But given a chance to get a repub in the seat, they try.

Does not detract from NatPac giving money to the likes of Bush - Hastert - Frist - Saxby - Newt and more.

Put it this way: if you are running a campaign by stomping about corporate welfare, you don't take money EVER from those interests.
