There are churches out there with VERY effective counseling that truly does help to heal the soul. Give me another reason to be upset about a community honoring men and women that had NO CHOICE, but to go to a war that this country "mandated" they go to. those that "mandated" may have been wrong beyond words, but I submit to you these men and women would be hunted down and persecuted if they didn't heed that "mandate!" And they deserve some comfort and acknowledgment for their sacrifices.

Let's not persecute RELIGION. The real battle is with "religious" leaders that cannot control their desire to MAKE people turn to THEIR religion. Not every religious institution shares that goal!

BTW, I did read the words regarding GLOBAL recruitment, you may be right about this particular church, but I can't make that assumption without knowing MORE facts.

and I was noticing the section they have on American Indians.


They have a chart over several pages that notes how many of what tribe (and "stock" ;wtf: ), their condition, whether they are civilized or not. And what denomination of Christianity is doing the "civilizing".

The descriptions are written by different groups - so a couple of the more sympathetic notes mention things like that the civilizing is killing them off - causing alcoholism and destitution.

But that was far in the minority. Most of the notes listed things like whether their "morals" were improving - whether they were being assimilated - becoming American citizens, becoming Catholics or whatever.

Churches and Veterans groups have been doing this since WWII. It really is a part of life for them and I think it is a valuable service to the community. Please don't be threatened by everything churches do and say. Church is really not the enemy. the enemy is church leader's that cannot resist FORCING religion on the government and humanity. I can't decide if this church is being controlled by one of those leaders or not, can you?

You do realize that the military regularly prays before entering battle, right. It is comforting to them to do so. They pray for God's forgiveness, understanding, and blessing.

War is NEVER ideal, but it has existed since time began. Even the bible asks soldiers to do this before going into battle.


Anyway, at least consider that faith can give comfort to those dying on a battlefield for whatever reason and these men and women often don't have a choice about going to war. I would venture to say many of our soldiers didn't want to go to Iraq and don't want to be there now. Jesus would forgive those men and women. At least I think so.

Truly repentant people needing God's help, whether you are religious or not, can be comforted by religion.

our soldiers. Is there a secular group doing the same in the area? Maybe that would be an effort worth pursuing at a grassroots effort?

I actually think it would benefit both our soldiers and our communities to openly honor them like this. Soldiers are want to see the citizens that are supporting them.
