The only reason W is the pres. is because somebody OWED Daddybush
there's never been a more unqualified, inept man in the office of president in all our history, and if it weren't for somebody owing George Herbert Walker Bush some big ass favor for some god awful things that he did in the past, we wouldn't have to suffer w.

the question is what did daddybush do to deserve such a favor? daddybush's own presidency was probably due to him for getting reagan in for 8 years and destroying the nation. but letting jr. pretend to be the president?...the favor must have been very large indeed.

some speculate daddybush was in on the jfk mess, and the attempted reagan assassination. some suspect that daddybush is THE infamous deep throat.

you don't get a man like george dumbya bush in the highest office in the land, pretending to be the president, without either having something on someone, or be due payment for performing some evil deed, if you catch my drift, wink wink, nudge nudge, know what i mean, know what i mean?

1. One main reason, too
is that, no matter how you spin it, no matter how you sell it, this nation would never elect a vile asshole like Cheney.

2. I agree.
But I also think it has a lot to do with him being easy to manipulate. Sort of a Manchurian candidate. I don't really think * has a chip in his head but the speaker in his ear is close enough.

3. Why didn't he call in the favor in 1992?
More likely: Chimp is in office because a large chunk of the voting populace are malleable imbeciles.

4. One theory I've read:
Edited on Mon Feb-07-05 06:33 PM by Lydia Leftcoast
If Poppy had been elected to a second term, he would have been indicted for Iran-Contra. The Republicans urged him to throw the election with the promise that one of his sons would be nominated eventually.

I became suspicious when the Republican activist old ladies in my former apartment building began twittering about how wonderful George W. was early in 1999, and how he had a $40 million war chest already. I asked them why Bushboy was the only choice among all the more experienced and qualified Republicans out there, since he seemed notably undistinguished. They simply told me that "everybody knew" he was going to be the next president.

7. I think the fly in the ointment in 92 was Perot. He drew votes from
Poppy. The Repukes were SURE that there was going to be 8 more years of Bush, since he had been the real President during the last few years of Reagan's Alzheimers Presidency.
That is what really pissed off W. He was working on Poppy's campaign...(and doing Bo Derek at the time, I read somewhere).
That is probably when the plan to run W in 2000 was hatched.

10. Agree, cept on the Perot part, Clinton owned Poppy Bush
Statistics show that Clinton and Bush split Perot votes relatively evenly. At the VERY worst Clinton might have lost Georgia, Kentucky, Montana, Ohio, and maybe New Jersey but he STILL would've had an electoral majority mostly because of clear victories in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Tennesee. There are no credible studies that show that poppy Bush would've won in 1992, only some that show that Clinton would not have had an electoral landslide.

9. several months before the election
there was a woman reporter on cbc (canadian broadcast. corp) saying the bush people planned to spend up to a 'billion' dollars to get control of the white house; she had overheard that from some high level republican strategists (unfortunately, i can't recall either name of reporter, nor program she was on- i assumed lotsa people were hearing same thing)....anyway, that seemed grotesque, as a 'billion' can bribe alot of new media people etc, corrupt alot of officials...apparently, spending $200 million for a run at the presidency was the entire (both parties) cost of election prior to 2000, and it was looked upon with horror as obviously no one can truly understand the effect of that much money, basically just to promote candidates.....if the busheviks were planning to spend a 'billion' surely to god the fact should have attracted att'n....the reporter who mentioned it sounded as if the bush war chest was no secret, it was being publicly talked about...yet it got mentioned in the news only in passing, if at all...i betcha few here on DU have ever heard the 'billion' dollar figure before...

11. Who was more likely to investigate Poppy, his own AG or Clinton's
It just doesn't add up. What also amazes me is that some on DU can't grasp the idea that Clinton was the most remarkable politician of his generation and had the best political strategists working for him. He owned poppy, that's all there is to it. No offense to you if you disagree with my analysis and I would love your opinion if you disagree.

12. This is nothing new, IE Jeb Bush and Katherine Harris
Other than that, it's about it. Poppy raised millions for his son and he had huge name recognition. This allowed him to beat out all candidates except for John McCain and he took care of McCain by using the Swift Boat Liars and telling the bigots of South Carolina about McCain's black child.

Then to finally seal the deal, Katherine Harris and Jeb Bush made sure that he wouldn't loose Florida.

13. China
The first test of w* complying with the deal was the spy plane incident right at the start of his "term".
