"Inform on your neighbor."
Anderson Cooper just gave John Stewert a pack of cigarrettes the US is giving out in Iraq and he said that the writing on it meant, "inform on your nieghbor."

He said there is no more talk of winning the hearts and minds of Iraqi's.

10. Yes, he also gave him a comic book
instructing Iraqi children not to play with toy guns and to dream of having jobs

he said reporters cant be outside, and that the elections went the way they did because everything was locked down, Baghdad is a busy city and not a single car was allowed.

I think its interesting that cooper chose to give that side of things on the Daily Show.

14. He told Stewart, in answer to a question, that on CNN
They aren't supposed to give their own opinions on things, but I think he painted a pretty clear picture. Also, when asked if he was going back, Cooper emphatically said NO, that he was done! Kind of like WHEW!
:scared:

16. If you're still up, it's repeated at 1am ET
And then tomorrow at 10am and 7pm. It was a pretty good interview, certainly more informative than yesterday's, when Paula Abdul talked about her first job at a shopping mall.:eyes:

We're dealing with "insurgents" in the guise of AQ.

I mean, "inform on your neighbor" basically means we know that native Iraqis are part and parcel of this counteroffensive. Doesn't it? Or am I completely clueless?

Just checking. :-(

edited because I can't spell...

Their little campaign kills two birds with one stone: encourage them to nark on their neighbors while getting them addicted to ciggarettes so the American Tobacco companies have a new market.

8. I'm not so concerned with the tobacco, honestly.
I am concerned that our government now knows that it isn't all 'outsiders' causing this carnage...but of course I already knew this would happen, oh, let's say way back before this war started.

9. Actually, those could be insurgents.
Insurgents are members of the population who rise up. (but isnt it funny how many people got the impression it meant foriegn fighters)

The real question is whether it is an insurgency, where the people rose up, or whether this was just the Iraqi defence plan, and this is a coordinated campaign.

The cigarettes wouldnt seem to indicate either way on that issue.

11. I saw that. The situation there is just so tragic
However, I liked what Jon Stewart replied, that he looked forward to becoming addicted to cigarettes again and then informing on his neighbors!:D
