1. ...and that's less than Truman beat Dewey by."
I believe those were her words.

She seemed rather peeved at her beloved GOP.

8. Thanks. I just read the responses and went out
to the living room where that same episode was replaying and she was saying what I had missed. How's that for coincidence?

4. Bush won by a smaller margin then Truman beat Dewey by. The smallest
victory by an incumbent Prez in recent history (I can't remember how far back). I remember the Truman/Dewey part because I thought it would be great to use against anyone who tries to act like Bush won big.

7. Thank you. That's exactly what I was thinking. It's
a good point to make about how ridiculous it is to think he has a mandate.

6. Still, I respect her.
I wish she had spoken out earlier. But, at least she's speaking out now. I hope more of the thinking conservatives join her. Bush is an evangelical who believes he's chosen by God. He's on a mission. He's bankrupting the country, ruining the environment, and involving our troops in a deadly quagmire which has already killed over 1400 of our soldiers and an unknown number of Iraqi citizens.

11. She was on the Diane Rehm Show
earlier in the day, on NPR. She spent a lot of time applauding Bush and his policies, so don't hold her on too high a pedestal. She did, however decry the extreme conservative direction the Republicans seem hell-bent in going. She mentioned some things about the Republican Party that she liked. Among them was less Federal intervention in the needs of the people. She said something like, "Republicans want people to help themselves. If that doesn't work, it's always better for the help to come from as close to the problem as possible." (state's rights).

Further, she said that GW said (and she believes him!!) that he wants to leave the country's air and water cleaner than when he entered office.

I trust her about as much as I do Senator McCain - or any other Republican, for that matter.

Like Diogenes, I am still looking for a good Republican....

10. It's the smallest margin on record for an incumbent win.
Truman won by 4.9% in 1948
Wilson won by 3.5% in 1916
Bush won by 2.4% in 2004
