Joe Lieberman's new crusade...raising TV indecency fines.
Edited on Fri Jan-28-05 06:40 AM by Cascadian
Holy Joe Lieberman is now going after TV networks to make sure they don't "cross the line" in terms of what is considered decent. He and fellow Republican (snicker!) Sam Brownback of Kansas are introducing a bill that would increase the fines for indecency from the range of $500 to $32,000 to a whopping maximum penalty of $325,000 for every count of "smut".

So Senators, are you doing this to commemorate the first anniversary of Janet Jackson's costume faux pas or what?

God! Why do we have such prudes in office?

John

1. I heard a rumor that Paul Newman might challenge Liberman in 06
I hope so because Liberman needs to switch parties or be retired.

I'm so sick of this crap from Joe. He's done a lot of good in his Senate career, but why has this become his favorite battle? :eyes::grr:

5. Who the fuck are these people to decide what's decent?
I don't yield to those I elect (not that I elected either of those 2) the right to determine what is and isn't decent for people to watch on TV.

Can't Americans think for themselves? Do they really need Congress to make those decisions for them?

7. Can Jowly Joe be beaten in the primary?
Edited on Fri Jan-28-05 07:57 AM by BiggJawn
Or would he have to face a challenger in the fall election?

I'll bet he's just like Evan Bayh, the darling of his state DC and they won't allow challengers, right?

Why am I making suggestions for an election not in my state?

Why, it could be because Joe is trying to introduce a law without considering what my "Community Standards" are, that's why.

9. This is stunningly great news I think
If TV stations get heavily fined for putting on indecent programming, maybe they will think twice about coving a Bush press conference or letting Condi or Rummy spread their vile lies on the talking head shows.

12. I'm so glad that we have all the bigger issues solved, since I am
sure that our elected officials would not concern themselves with these trifling issuses while we still had big-ass problems like a war, the deficits, no energy policy, plummeting dollar, etc. etc.

why do we have such prudes? I really don't know. Part of me says it has to be just a cynical attempt to distract us from the real issues.

13. Lieberman's only issues: Pro-Censorship & Pro-Iraqi War
I honestly can't think of another issue that he's moved on with any clairty, effort or even (dare I say it) Joementum. I'm growing increasingly tired of him wasting his time with absurd bullshit like increasing FCC fines on subjective infactions of the law.

Here's an idea, Joe. If for every day you spend pissing into the wind, you also spend one in Iraq looking at that brilliant decision (which you still support), I'll stop calling you a worthless, dried out husk of a human being.
