You guys will not believe this email I just received!
This is the first I have seen it. Below is the email in full:
----------------------

Think a gallon of gas is expensive?

This makes one think, and also puts things in perspective.

Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29 . $10.32 per gallon
Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19 ...........$9.52 per gallon
Gatorade 20 oz $1.59 .... $10.17 per gallon
Ocean Spray 16 oz $1.25 . $10.00 per gallon
Brake Fluid 12 oz $3.15 $33.60 per gallon
Vick's Nyquil 6 oz $8.35 ... $178.13 per gallon
Pepto Bismol 4 oz $3.85 ..... $123.20 per gallon
Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 ......... .. $25.42 per gallon
Scope 1.5 oz $0.99 .....$84.48 per gallon

And this is the REAL KICKER
Evian water 9 oz $1.49..........$21.19 per gallon?! $21.19 for WATER - and the buyers don't even know the source. (Evian spelled backwards is Naive.)

So, the next time you're at the pump, be glad your car doesn't run on water, Scope, or Whiteout, or God forbid Pepto Bismal or Nyquil.

Just a little humor to help ease the pain of your next trip to the pump...

And - If you don't pass this along to at least one person, your nose will fall off.

---------------------------------

Is this not lame or what! This is definite propaganda by the oil companies. Or a negative campaign of those products..especially Evian water. I also wonder if these products are democratic friendly.

2. Gas is over $5 /gallon in Europe.
You think there are govt subsidies that make it cheaper here?

11. Well when you factor in the subsidies to oil co's and oil wars, gas costs
a hell of a lot more than that sticker price at the pump.

12. It's the pirates who drive the price up
Yes, I said PIRATES.

Piracy is alive and well
and tankers are hijacked all the time in
Gibraltar
Panama Canal
Strait of Magellan
Strait of Malacca
Bosorus and Dardanelles
Suez Canal
Strait of Hormuz
Bab el Mandeb

The Strait of Malacca may be leaving that list now,
seeing as how the tsunami fixed it so that the sea is now way too shallow for many ships.
Oh well,
that only means that the PIPELINES
such as the up and coming one the US-friendly Thailand has agreed to host,
will now become more important.
Go Cheney!!!

The proposed 240-kilometer pipeline, known as the Strategic Energy Landbridge, is intended to link oil production sources in the Middle East with consumers in East Asia, avoiding the long journey that tankers must currently take around the end of the Malay Peninsula.

7. even off brand water is expensive
Your comparison to gasoline is an interesting one. I happened to be in Whole Foods the other day (I rarely go because it is so expensive but they do have very good cheese, which one every few months I indulge in). They had some brand of water, about 12-16 oz., for $1.99! It wasn't even French. Drinks at our campus convenience store are enormously expensive. Too bad we can't drink gas.

and brake fluid is a petrol product and nobody would need to drink bottled water but for industry spoiling ground water...stupid fucks!

14. Just for...
...you Americans to put your gas prices in perspective: A gallon of gasoline currently would cost you 5,90 US Dollar at a gas station here in Germany. Please check if I got all unit conversions right:

1 liter gas costs 1,20 Euro here at the moment.
1 US gallon equals 3,785 liter, so that's 1,20 Euro x 3,785 = 4,54 Euro per gallon.
1 Euro equals 1,30 US Dollar, and 4,54 x 1,30 US Dollar = 5,90 US Dollar.

Happy driving... ;-)

22. If I made as much as your average European...
...And had the mass-transit oportunities they have, I wouldn't quibble at $5.90 a gallon.

15. Or, you can interpret it as meaning that gas is too cheap
considering all the environmental damage that cars and roads cause and the wars that are fought to obtain supplies of oil

16. It's silly
All over South Florida are these kiosks where you can fill containers with water. Filling a gallon jug will cost you a quarter, a five gallon container can be filled for a dollar. When you purchase a chilled bottle of Evian you are buying the bottle, the name, and the refrigeration. You aren't buying water.

Also, anyone who has ever worked in the restaurant business can tell you that the costs associated with serving sodas are primarily in the cups they come in, plus labor costs. The soda itself costs virtually nothing. A 2 liter bottle of soda contains about 68 oz of soda but it can be purchased for almost the same price as a single serving bottle 1/4 it's size. Why? Because you're buying the bottle, they are giving you the soda almost free.

The lesson here is that for many of these liquids the container adds more to the cost than the liquid itself is worth. Please note that your cars gas tank is already paid for, when you purchase gas that's ALL you are purchasing, gas.

And of course it is also true that the profit margin on many of those items is the highest of just about any consumer product you could name. When buying say, a can of green beans, getting a generic store brand will save you 10-25% tops. Compare the items mentioned in that email with their generic equivalents and you'll see savings of 50% and higher.

17. There are alternatives to Snapple or Gatorade, and tap water
at my house is much cheaper than Evian, but what's the point of this email other than an attempt at humor? Don't see it as especially propagandistic. Sometimes a joke is just a joke.

21. I think there point is more than just humor.
Just think, if I were the owner of several oil companies, this is the kind of email spam I would want to put out. And what is that slam on evian spelled backwards?

That was more than a joke, my friend.
