2. You Should Try Living In Appalachia...
alot of folks derive their opinion of this region from watching movies like "Wrong Turn" or "Deliverance."

3. Nah, everybody is still getting their shots.
We're just getting more than our fair share lately because it is trendy to say that Southerners won't vote for one of us. Frankly, I don't know anyone in the Northeast who would be impressed with someone just because they are from the South, so it cuts both ways.

6. I don't know about that
I've seen plenty of southwest bashing (I'm from the only non-border county in Texas to vote Kerry). Just not from the the "folks".

10. Yeah, Mass has 90% tax rates, an anarcho-syndicalist governor,
an anarcho-communist legislature, and mandatory homosexuality and wicca lessons in school.

19. It also has the LOWEST DIVORCE rate in the U.S.A.
That's right, folks. That liberal hellhole Massachusetts has a lower divorce rate than all of the moral, god-fearing red states. So FUCK YOU, BUSH-LOVERS!!!

9. Northeasterners bash the rest
I have to say, I don't think I've met anyone more provincial than New Yorkers. Many seem to believe nothing of importance exists beyond their little island. I think the Northeastern bashing is a reaction to that sort of attitude. Calling the middle of the country "fly over" states isn't exactly endearing.

13. I beg to differ
Until I just read your comment, I thought my region was the only one mocked and ridiculed.

Do people associate your regional accent with stupidity? I don't think so.

Do people automatically think you are prejudiced because of your place of birth and your accent? I don't think so.

Does Hollywood make hidious shows like "The Dukes of Hazzard" about people from your region? Not likely.

The people of the South have been stereotyped and ridiculed for years. Maybe, Senator, you just haven't realized you were doing it.

14. misunderstanding.
im talking about being from the north east as a liability to a politician, especially a liberal one. being from texas is not a political liability. being from the south is an advantage politically.

20. I Agree
I am a Kennedy Democrat. I was devastated when JFK was shot and equally upset when we lost Bobby and John.
I achieved one of my lifelong goals last year of making a pilgrimage to the Kennedy Library. At the Library, I learned more about Joe Jr. He had it all! What a loss to this country when Joe Jr was not able to become one of our great leaders.

I am sad for this world that the people of this country want a dumbed down president because they think a smart man is too much of an elitist. Lately, they do seem to be repeating the meme that NE candidates are too patritian and elitist. I WANT a smart person to lead my country, not some slick JR Ewing type Oil man who has broken all his own toys and now wants to break Social Security.

23. Bah! I'm in New Jersey, and...
I KNOW from bashing.

You think the Northeast gets bashed for being elitist?

The South for being dumb hicks?

The Midwest for not even knowing they're dumb hicks?

The West for being drugstore cowboys?

California for being just plain wierd?

Well, Joisey doesn't even get half the respect those places get from the people who think like that.

Shit, when I lived in New York I was always bashing New Jersey and didn't understand why the B&T's didn't get it. Even F-Troop dissed the state when Parmenter offered it to a bunch of pissed-off Indians and they were insulted.

But now I see that we just don't get no respect. We're this little kidney bean between NYC and Philadelphia that might as well be just another pothole. Nobody wants our votes, our opinions, or even our money. Nobody cares enough about us to hate us. Nobody ever loved us.

They don't even bother with the jokes any more.

Just don't get no respect.

The only people I see ridiculed regularly are southerners. Remeber the "fuck the south" site and posts here a few months ago.

I've lived in the northeast (MD, NJ), the West (CA, WA) and the south (FL, AL), and I see a whole lot more bashing of southerners then other regions.

I think there is a deep prejudice against southerners in most of the country and I see it when I travel and people find out I live in Alabama (despite the fact I was born and raised in the northeast).

28. Hell, New York City even hates the rest of New York State!
And consider anything above Manhattan "upstate"!

People are hurt.
People get angry.
People say stupid things.

But not me. I'm always right. And don't you all forget it!

And you KNOW about those "square staters"!
