Ron Paul's neo-con speech...
I'm printing this one out for my neo-con dad since he keeps giving me crap about how much better Bush is than Clinton for the economy...ugh!!

Check out the transcript, it's a great speech from a libertarian conservative.....

http://www.house.gov/paul/congrec/congrec2003/cr071003.htm

Now there’s mounting evidence to indicate exactly what happened to the revolution. Government is bigger than ever, and future commitments are overwhelming. Millions will soon become disenchanted with the new status quo delivered to the American people by the advocates of limited government and will find it to be just more of the old status quo. Victories for limited government have turned out to be hollow indeed.

Since the national debt is increasing at a rate greater than a half-trillion dollars per year, the debt limit was recently increased by an astounding $984 billion dollars. Total U.S. government obligations are $43 trillion, while total net worth of U.S. households is just over $44 trillion. The country is broke, but no one in Washington seems to notice or care. The philosophic and political commitment for both guns and butter—and especially the expanding American empire—must be challenged. This is crucial for our survival.

In spite of the floundering economy, Congress and the Administration continue to take on new commitments in foreign aid, education, farming, medicine, multiple efforts at nation building, and preemptive wars around the world. Already we’re entrenched in Iraq and Afghanistan, with plans to soon add new trophies to our conquest. War talk abounds as to when Syria, Iran and North Korea will be attacked.

How did all this transpire? Why did the government do it? Why haven’t the people objected? How long will it go on before something is done? Does anyone care?

Will the euphoria of grand military victories—against non-enemies—ever be mellowed? Someday, we as a legislative body must face the reality of the dire situation in which we have allowed ourselves to become enmeshed. Hopefully, it will be soon!

1. This speech was Outstanding!
I couldn't believe it when I switched to CSPAN in the middle of his speech. There was an R on the floor of the House calling for a Call To Arms. NO he says...not with firearms, but everyone in the Congress should start waving their arms high atop their heads saying ENOUGH!

He was all over the neo-cons and talked extensively about how they were trampling on our civil liberties.

This speech is Highly recommended.

3. Libertarians have more in common with liberals
than they do with conservatives.

4. Except what's up with education?
I can understand people who don't want national heatlhcare because we've never had it, change and all that. But education? I've heard other Libertarians say there should be no public education. Where do they get this from? Jefferson promoted public education. I can't understand what kind of country they think we'd have if we just shut down all services. That's where I usually lose connection with Libertarians and I just don't understand their thinking on this.

6. "Government schools" are a big bogeyman
I only recently learned this myself. Spending time on a site that includes a lot of rabid rightwingers hasn't always been fun, but it's been educational. I only checked in there by accident..wasn't really a political supposed to be a political site..but wow..the minds of the rightwingers are a wonder to behold. I imagine that's why some DUers check Free Republic. You get caught with your mouth hanging open at some of their statements if you don't know what the current party line is. I can't watch Rush or the others..blood pressure problems..not good for my health, but I learn what they're saying in controlled doses by reading what their fans have to say. And one of the things is that the phrase "public schools" has been changed to "government schools" so as to create a picture of kids being indoctrinated a la Maoist China or Hitler Youth, I guess.

5. It's a very good speech
and very honest. I don't know why DUers are so giddy about it though; it has some powerful criticisms of liberals tucked in there alongside the neo-con bashing.

7. PNAC - the Neocon Agenda
Spoken clearly and out loud in Congress. It's about time, even if it has to be from someone like Ron Paul. And yes he has criticisms of liberals, but people are entitled to their opinion. He's far more critical of the neocons and that's a good thing in my book.
