Armed Pilot Charged With Intoxication
LAS VEGAS (AP) - An armed AirTran Airways pilot was charged with operating an aircraft under the influence after a federal screener at McCarran International Airport smelled alcohol, authorities said Thursday.

Las Vegas police arrested Oliver Paul Reason Jr., 37, in the cockpit of the AirTran plane shortly after he passed through an airport checkpoint Wednesday night, according to the Transportation Security Administration, police and the airline.

1. I knew we had bomb sniffing dogs.
I didn't know we had alcohol sniffing screeners.

"The pilot has been suspended from his duties as a federal flight deck officer, which had allowed him to carry the firearm, the TSA said."

2. Can't wait till one of these pilots shoots some poor schmuck
cause they don't have enough training.

What a horrible idea this was.

I still predict the first use of a firearm on a plane will be against a crewman after it has been taken from a pilot.

3. You could be right, but I believe that the majority...
of flight deck crew members are ex-military, and at least know the business end from the firing pin. I'd be far more concerned if the only people carrying the weapons on the flight were terrorists and the random federal marshall...

4. Shit, the majority of cops killed with handguns many years and in
many places were killed with their own gun.

Ex-military means nothing when dealing with armed confrontations.

5. Again, you're right...
my point about being ex-military was that at least they can tell you which end of the pistol the little projectile is SUPPOSED to come out of...

6. Am I the only person who opened this expecting to see info about the
military pilot who shot the school in New Jersey? I don't think that has ever been explained.
