Kansas church thanks God for tsunami, prays for more deaths
Edited on Tue Jan-04-05 05:28 PM by quaoar
This is from Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas, which is notoriously anti-gay, as you can tell by the name of their website. They are glad that so many Swedes died because they believe most Swedes are gay.

2. A little misleading in your title... I seriously doubt that Phelps
Edited on Tue Jan-04-05 05:38 PM by Misunderestimator
represents the entire "Baptist" church. There've been other threads on this, and yeah, they are sick bastards.

(On edit... thanks for editing it, reads much better now)

3. Baptist, as in one Baptist church
Not the entire church. But I'll edit the title.

6. I know you meant that after I read it...
:) I was surprised to see it was about Phelps' site when I clicked on it, that's all.

4. To be precise, there is no such thing as "The Baptist Church"
There are Baptist churches, but not one great big all-inclusive thing like The Roman Catholic Church. There are various associations of Baptist churches, e.g., the Southern Baptist Convention.

So Phelps' "church" probably DID thank God for the tsunami, etc. I doubt God was listening to that hater, though.

9. Yes, yes... my point is only that Phelps is WAY outside the mainstream
Edited on Tue Jan-04-05 05:37 PM by Misunderestimator
of any denomination. I am in no way defending the various Baptist church associations, just pointing out that it's misleading to associate Phelps as representing anything larger than his one "church."

(On edit... Perhaps you read my response after the original post was edited... it had said "Baptist Church thanks God for tsunami, prays for more deaths" when I responded, so I think that's why you thought I was referring to some all-inclusive Baptist church.)

5. It would have been...
Edited on Tue Jan-04-05 05:32 PM by brook
better perhaps to have included "Westboro" in your title. By not doing so, you appear to be painting all Baptists with the same brush, which is inaccurate and unfair.

Just an observation - in the interest of distancing DU from a place like FR.

On edit: Sorry to be repeating what was posted while I 'cogitated'. :)

10. Westboro Baptist Church is to regular Baptist churches as
Fred Phelps is to regular Democrats. WBC is just a small group of freaks, ruled by a psychopath.

12. evil worshipers.
pure, unadulterated evil. they are not christians in even the most distant sense.

they may not recognize me as their pontiff, but i self-proclaim to excommunicate them as heretical and denounce their blaspheme against christianity by their calling themselves christians.

i'd expect any other sensible christians to do the same.

14. I've kept a copy of this one. . .
Sooner or later, this horrible flyer will be taken down. I thought it important to keep a copy as proof of the insanity of the religious right.

These people keep on raising God to public ridicule with their narrow-minded, cruel and bloodthirsty thinking. They need to be
exposed.
