The Texas Senate has rejected the House's redistricting bill. They are having to start all over again. The Senate will likely pass--if they have to votes to bring it to the floor--another redistricting bill. Of course, then there will have to be a conference committee to hammer out differences and then another vote in both the House and Senate. The special session can only last for 30 days, so the clock is ticking all this time. If the Democrats don't get the 11 votes in the Senate needed to block the bill, my suggestion would be for the Democrats in the House to bail the state on the eve of the vote and run out the clock until the session ends. Of course Governor Hairspray can call another special session, but only at a cost of more of his political capital, and the process would have to start all over again: hearings, debate, vote, hearings, debate, vote, conference committe, debate, vote.
