Who is for the total number of posts being displayed?
Since there is a number displayed next to our call-name and since DU has been running for awhile I think it is just logical that the total number of posts should be displayed and not just the 1000+. One can make a point that this number is not important, and I can certainly agree with that too.

1. No, it is not important and encourages spam.

Furthermore it can weight arguments people might make as "credible", on the basis that a high number is impressive and indicates some form of "seniority".

2. Well, I, for one, happen to miss
seeing the total post counts the way they used to be displayed, and I don't see the harm in doing that. Frankly, people already do the credibility game using post counts, so it wouldn't make much difference in that regard. And those with much higher post counts frankly SHOULD have more credibility, imho. There's nothing more annoying than a poster with a low count acting superior and telling everyone just how things should be run, etc.

8. I would say that we don't.
It's only there because some people like it.

3. Saying more doesn't necessarily mean
knowing more. You can check a persons profile if you want to know how many posts they have and when they joined DU.
Number of posts? It's the substance that I care about.

5. They used to do that.
They stopped it deliberately because it tended to create a situation in which some people were considered "aristocracy" because of high post counts. They decided that this system promotes a greater sense of egalitarianism and respect.

I think it was a good decision.

9. The quality of the information in a post.......
.......is more important than quantity of posts one has accrued, IMHO. :)

I'd prefer that they try getting the 'number of times viewed' feature working again. It's nice to get feedback as to what topics are of the most interest to people here in general.

11. That's the way it used to be
but Skinner decided to many people with high posts counts were 'swaggering around here like they owned the place' and leaving the count showing was only feeding people's egos. There was a big debate about it but Skinner had the last word. I was for letting the posts show but since then I have come to the conclusion that Skinner was right in the compromise he made. YAH Skinner! :toast:
