The Golden Rule--do we want Iraqis to shoot our wounded?

What the American people don't seem to get is that when American soldiers shoot unarmed and wounded Iraqis, then Iraqis think it's OK to shoot our unarmed and wounded soldiers. That means John down the street who joined the National Guard is being put at risk. I would think that if you're going to put a yellow sticker on your SUV, you might want to support the troops by asking them to set an example so men like John don't get killed. Oh, and, this comes from your friend Jesus--Do unto others what you would have them do unto you.

It doesn't help us to shoot the wounded. If our goal is to show them what Christians are like, then it would seem that applying the Golden Rule would help.

the "Golden Rule" isn't just found in Christianity. Most religions, spiritual paths, and philosophies of life (I said MOST) have something similar. I think it's a basic tenet of what it is to be human.

8. The Golden Rule is NOT reciprocal

when you have an Empire. The Empire believes that it's got God's own mandate. So if you resist, you're resisting God's will, hence you are evil. BTW, since God has given his own imprimatur to the Empire (because he allowed/made the Empire an Empire), anything the Empire does is ok w/ God. Case closed.

10. Losing our soul

It's the same reason I argue against the death penalty. I think with every immoral act, our nation loses a piece of our soul. It's not about what the appropriate punishment is for a criminal or terrorist. It's not about convoluting that particular situation into self-defense. It's about the spirits of those soldiers. Every act like this takes a piece of that out of them, and out of this country. It's a steps towards a callousness that we've seen way too much of in this war, and another step down the path of a raw barbaric United States. We lose as a people when we dehumanize any human being.
