Why the hell do we need to legislate things like Abortion, Homosexuality
Evolution that are social issues that are best left to individuals to decide? The Republicans who keep repeating their slogans about Government interference in every sphere seem to have itchy fingers when it comes to these issues.Ofr course, the religious fanatics who have taken over that Party ( or more appropriately that Gang) have a vested interest in getting their hands on the Federal Till to brainwash the masses and spread prejudice and bigotry.

1. Because just like their religion, the Fundies want to force
all of their views and thought on all people, everwhere.
So They will pass laws here in the US to force the views on citizens. And then we will attack non christian nations and force them to submit to christianity and then the same morals as the fundies.
It is a Fundamentalist world now.

3. There is no integrity without consistency.
The GOP is allegedly for smaller government, less government spending, and states' rights. But it seems when they are in power they produce results very different from these stated goals. It is bait and switch.

But the bigger question is do they really believe in these things? Abortion is murder but lethal injection isn't?! Or will they just say anything.

8. I remember the time when socalled conservatives like George Will
were against legislation to outlaw segregation in our schools and housing because such legislation should not be used to force integration on people. Here too the inconsistency is glaring.

10. Next on the horizon: constitutional amendments to suit
the whims of the GOP.

4. Because
people will use God to sanctify their fears and hatreds and government to enforce them.

6. And why is it so many people think Bush can do anything about them?
Especially abortion. My understanding of the way our government works (or is supposed to work) is that Roe v. Wade would have to be overturned by the Supreme Court and even that would have to be approved by Congress (correct me if I'm wrong) It seems like the only influence Bush would have is if/when he appoints a new justice, who ALSO has to be approved by Congress! I just don't see any of that every happening...

7. Gee, one, maybe two more conservative Supreme Court appointments
And overturning Roe v Wade WILL occurr. No approval of Congress will be needed to overturn it, only Congress' approval of the Bush appointee.

And with Bushco's new "mandate", somebody like Ashcroft could probably be rammed through Congress fairly easily.

9. 'Cause if we don't, we might have to address real problems!
Like the looming budget deficit, the war on Iraq, etc.

11. That's the whole point
It's a double standard. Conservatives want less governmental intrusion into their lives (supposedly) but have no problem suggesting amendments to the Constitution to narrow the rights and freedoms of others. They CAN'T have it both ways!

12. Because rightwing CHRISTIANS Are In Charge...
They talk about wanting LESS government and a government that's not intrusive. The hypocrisy just reeks!

Well... once they enter my bedroom how much MORE INTRUSIVE can it be? When they control a woman's body, that seems pretty INTRUSIVE to me!

13. As much as I can't stand Ayn Rand, she made a good point that
the Attilas (power brokers) needed the Witch Doctors (religious figures) to control the population in order to cement their grip on power. That's why we need to legislate these moral issues...without them the people would never buy what the Attilas are selling.
