If I could make a suggestion :
I do not trust this Administration. Nothing is out of bounds with them. After all, they had the gall to start a war and lie their way out of responsibility. They will do anything.

With that in mind, I would suggest that each person on DU pick out ten names at random and exchange email addresses.....just in case. I'm not saying they would try to shut down DU....but just in case, we would still have the capacity to form units to communicate and to organize. Just a thought.

Maybe I'm just a paranoid.....

1. No you are not.
I wondered what we would do if we were shut off. I realized that I only had a couple of DUer addresses. Yes we need to do something like this.

4. Great idea.
Everytime I have difficulty accessing DU, I freak, put on my :tinfoilhat: and wonder if this is the day they come for the Internets. DU is the only thing keeping me sane.

7. turning off a website related to a political party
is cuba-level repression of opposition, and i would expect the less
affiliated ones to be shut first, smirkingchimp, jibjab, and
free republic. That Democratic Underground is used as a campaign
organizing board makes it just short of banning the democratic party
outright from existing... and though i realize the nazi's did this,
i would expect them to be more subtle.

Rather they have the name and details of each of us via the homeland
sieve. They can ask skinner for the data and he can't say no, nor
can he tell us its been asked for, per Patriot-II, just like a
librarian can't or a bookshop that you've been "searched" by the
nazi's.

They would probably start going after each poster individually and
doing things like IRS audits, police searches of homes, confiscation
of home computers to check for terrorism, and that sort of thing.

If they go for it, they'll go after individuals.

That said, i like your idea. I'll chew on it.... all the ones i
got are in my DU mailbox... good point!

9. Most people would need to go into "OPTIONS" at top of page...
and "Edit their preferences" to turn on their email....Many of us have turned the email off....

10. I think that we all should email as many people as possible

If they bring this website down or to an end we can always find each other on another board if there are enough of us.
