Email account hacked into! Finally got into it tonight - mail in trash!

I've been trying to get into a hotmail.com acct. that I use strictly for political information.

I've been trying to sign into it since the election with no luck.

After numerous attempts and letters, I finally got into it tonight and noticed that there was hardly any mail in it but overall the box was far from being full. I then realized that the trash can had 71 messages. I looked at these messages (recovered) them and they were from Bill Clinton, John Edwards and Terry McAuliffe! :wtf:

Anyone else had a similar experience? Should I chalk it up to a mere MSN error OR ARE WE BEING WATCHED AND HACKED PERSONALLY NOW?

But I sent an e-mail to an atheist chat list which included a link to blackboxvoting.org and received strange responses. The next day, I received all sorts of strange spam with viruses attached. This included comments that I had visited "illegal websites". No, I don't save e-mail when viruses are attached.

2. Nothing truly nefarious here...

It's all part of this effort to separate "spam" from good email. They have this software now that identifies mail as spam depending on how it was sent. There is something called an "open relay" test which means the email is being sent automatically by another machine. When most of the biggies (like Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.) get a mail like that it automatically goes into either the Trash can or a folder set up for bulk.

4. yep, and all my bookmarks are gone too.

so is mac os10. I did get in through os9 but all my stuff is gone. Mine was a very political email account.
I'm just happy DU didn't go down, I was sure we would be -poof- gone.

It has nothing to do with anybody watching you.

Or perhaps I should say, how would you know if its not a hacker?

My computer pal said thats a possibility and he also couldnt figure out why my email was going to trash (this is what he does for a living).

To this day I havent figured out why I will have five emails incoming and only 3 wind up in my mailbox and the others evaporate. They don't hit the junk or trash bin.

Not that I know either way more than you do, but after having this happen for a few months now, I could lean toward Mr. Ashcroft's department.

11. Yahoo kept putting my political mail

into the junk mail box and I kept marking that IT IS NOT JUNK MAIL! I finally had to set up filters individually myself so that it wouldn't be automatically tossed into the junk box. :argh:
