Help Walmart Have An UnMerry Christmas
Edited on Sun Nov-07-04 03:35 PM by K8-EEE
Truly I would never even think of setting foot in the place; but I'm thinking of asking my red state relatives who shop there exclusively, if we can either not exchange gifts or exchange homemade gifts this year.

If I get anything from WallyWorld with a gift receipt you can bet I WILL break my rule and set foot in there....to exchange it.

Not only did they donate millions to Repukes but their labor practices suck and they kill small businesses. Return any Walmart crap you get this holiday season!

1. We haven't been to wal-mart in 4 years at least.
My fundie in-laws shop there and they buy all 4 of our boys their birthday and christmas present there and every single solitary time I go get THEIR money back and buy them something else from another store.

You should also consider banning target stores this year for the holidays. Didn't they ban the salvation army bell ringers? They suck.

2. Salvation Army is openly anti-gay
I visit the bell ringers' barrels and put in a piece of paper saying that if they reverse their discriminatory practices, the paper would be substituted for real money.

3. Oh Shit! I didn't know that.
Edited on Sun Nov-07-04 03:43 PM by lovedems
Thanks for the heads up. I honestly didn't know that. Then Target did a good thing. I secretly like Target anyway.

You know, I should have figured that out. My in-laws always give to the salvation army. I should have connected the dots. Any charity they give to is one that I stay away from. They want planned parenthood to disappear from the face of the earth.

Thanks again. It just goes to show you do learn something new every day.

11. Target: 60% GOP Contributors
Not as bad as WallyWorld but I'm cancelling my Target credit card and letting them know adjusting their pol gifts to at least 50/50 is the only way I'll be back.

Got the info from followyourmoney.com...if it's wrong they can show me differently, I do like that store!

14. Damn! I love Target, but not THAT much.
Oh well, my christmas list includes the following

Fahrenheit 911
Outfoxed
Untold, the truth about the Iraq war
Don't blame me I voted for Kerry t-shirts (for the kerry voters only)

I can order that off of progressive friendly sites this year. Liberal or not, the above gifts are what the adults in my family are getting for christmas this year.

I do have 4 boys to buy for but I have some time to come up with a solution that doesn't make me feel guilty.

8. Massive Walmart Returns Dec 26th
Along with a disappointing holiday season might convince them we mean business -- we will not support a Feudal economy just to buy cheap shit.

9. Gift suggestions
It might be a good idea to do a posting of places you know are operated by progressive thinking people where folks can buy their gifts. Here are some from Arkansas:

Dave Spencer-handcrafted toys and neat kaleidoscopes, all hand-made-this guy was out marching for peace and environmental causes before DU was created! Here's his website: www.spencertoys.com

Herb Culver-Heirloom plants-Herb raises plants that aren't genetically modified. You can save the seeds and plant your own next year. He's been a member of Seed Savers for years, and as a former president of the Newton County Wildlife Association, has endured threats of violence and burnout to try and save the forest around here. He dosn't have a website yet(I'm working on that) but if you PM me I can give you his phone number.

Ozark Cooperative Warehouse-Fayetteville AR. This group has been around for years and you can get all sorts of things here, many locally produced.

10. Thank You!
I totally respect people who are going all-out spartan for Christmas. I myself will spend the same amout I always do but very, very mindfully and only with companies like the ones you mention here.

13. Could we start calling them China-Mart instead of Wal-Mart?
Edited on Sun Nov-07-04 04:07 PM by Straight Shooter
Nothing but cheap imported goods from a country which practices female infanticide, has a horrid record on human rights (no, we're not much better), and is contributing to the ever-increasing need to drill for oil as they supply cheap products to the discriminating American Christian who shops at China-Mart f/k/a Wal-Mart. Said Christian being of course totally oblivious to China's highest rate, percentage-wise, of abortion in the world.

I'm sure someone can make a logo of a slanted-eye happy face for them, which would be politically incorrect but globally dead-on.

edit to fix my mistakes. Unlike dubya, I make 'em and admit 'em.

17. It's just a little thing but
I get a kick out of taking my returnables to Wal-Mart and just taking cash, not spending it there. I call shopping at Wal-Mart "feeding the great whore". :-) Starve it I say.
