tonight I wallow, tomorrow I steel myself
Tonight I'm drinking myself to oblivion.

But although I've felt bouts of despondency today about the One Party Democracy we now find ourselves in, I also have a certain rising conviction regarding my political and social beliefs.

There's a remark Novak made last night to dumbfounded liberals: "America is a conservative country." And ya know what, he's right. But he's only part right -- conservatism is inherent to the character of Americans, but so is progressivism. I don't have to tell anyone here that progressivism is as old as America itself. And it's something that may've withered a bit of late under the Republican barrage, but I know it will not be defeated because it is an inextricable part of our country.

I don't feel that I've done much in the short time that I've been politically aware. I've made small donations to organizations, I've participated in some "causes". Today I've realized that I really need to become part of whatever force is going to drive this country back towards sanity and rationality. Today I don't know what that will entail, my thoughts and ideas remain vague tonight. But I know I'm not going to give in, I'm committed to turning the dark tide that is rising in America. And despite our defeat last night, I believe we will win.
