A Question About Election Law
Does anybody know if there is anything in McCain-Feingold or any other FEC rules about public property being used to put campaign signs?

I see them in parkways in front of retail places, near the stop signs at 4 way stops with right turn lanes, etc. Seems to me that this is wrong. It's one thing if someone puts a sign in their yard. It's their property, and they can advertise in whatever way they wish.

But, i'm not happy to see signs promoting one candidate over another (no matter who it is) on property owned by the city, county or state.

Anybody know if this is legal?

1. It varies by locale
My town specifically bans it, but the pukes plant many signs on public property. I have taken to pulling them up and depositing them in the trash.

I've never been challenged in doing this.

2. No signs of any kind on street right-of-way
in my town; yard sales, political, whatever.
Not enforced though.

3. My city forbids posting signs on public property
but doesn't enforce it. As long as you pick up the signs after the election, the city won't fine you. I usually pick up any Democratic signs I see after the election.

4. Thanks To All
Yeah, i kind of thought that most cities have ordinances against it, but that it's not enforced. Sounds like that's what is experienced by you folks.

Thanks for the input.
