Eminem's anti-Bush anthem

Oct. 26, 2004 | With his history of homophobia and his long-running beef with MoveOn supporter Moby, Eminem is an even less likely lefty hero than Howard Stern. But the just-released video for his new anti-Bush song "Mosh," makes "Fahrenheit 9/11" look like a GOP campaign spot, and it will almost certainly reach an audience that wouldn't think of shelling out for a documentary.

1. Just watched it--DAMN...

I'm not a big hip-hop fan, though I like some of it--and I actually have a pretty strong bias against Eminem b/c of the homophobia thing--but I am a big fan of anime and animation and I do know something about art and communication, and DAMN that was powerful stuff. Really intense imagery, and he does some pretty sophisticated rhyme and rhythm play. I'm way more impressed with the guy than I was from what little I'd seen of him before.

video is really really good. I say good for him and thank you. I may never be a fan of his but I can certainly respect this.

the one scene of the guy watching the white hoods and the burning crosses on TV, I think that was supposed to symbolize FOX.

4. That lead-in is, to me, proof that she's never really listened

to Eminem, but whatever. ("she" being the Salon reporter)

5. Eminem & Homophobia

While I'm not a big fan of Eminem (I have never purchased an album, single, poster, ticket, etc), some of my friends are, and I've listened to his first two albums quite a bit in years past. He has a particular stance on homosexuality, and I think it's misrepresented because NEITHER side of the argument really cares for it. If you actually listen to his lyrics, his general opinion of it is:

I think it's disgusting, but that doesn't mean people can't still do it if they want to.

The squakboxes on the left hate it because it's tolerance rather than acceptance. The echochamber whores on the right hate it becaused it's tolerance rather than objection. And the media knows that "gay stories sell", so it's plastered all over the place.

Now, all that being said. . . any entertainer or pop culture figurehead (even one who proclaims to be the anti-pop culture figurehead) with the kind of appeal and target audience that Eminem has that wants to come down THIS HARD on the Bush people must at least have his head on halfway straight. No?

6. I'm amazed at the fact that so many people are

just now realizing that this guy is

a) an artist (whatever you think of his work, he is an artist)
b) really, really fucking pissed off at Bush
