Oil, presidential race make market trouble

"We are in a slowing economy," said Mary Farrell, managing director and senior investment strategist for UBS Wealth Management in New York.


She said the economy is expected to grow at 3.2 percent in 2005, compared with 4.4 percent in 2004.


But the fear is that the economy could slow down even further.


"The real worry is that we could be entering 2005 and ready to fall into a recession," Stovall said.


And that's possible, he said, if oil prices edge even closer to $60 or $70 a barrel.
