Can someone recommend a good biography of RFK?
I'm specifically interested in his socially minded transformation as opposed to running JFK's campaign or his DA work. THanks.

1. I think Schlesinger's Robert F Kennedy and his times is the best

at capturing the part of Robert that you are interested in. His book is definitely the best.

Next would be Even Thomas's "Robert Kennedy: His Life." It's a good read.

There are a number of lesser quality books, such as "Bobby Kennedy: The Making of a Folk Hero," by Lester and Irene David. These are usually less talented re-writes of Schlesinger's RFK book and "One Thousand Days."

Avoid "The Last Patrician," by Michael Beran, unless you want to read about RFK being a frustrated conservative republican.

To put RFK in a family context, read "The Kennedys: America's Emerald Kings," by Thomas Maier. Great book.
