4. Your post makes me think of the
Police Academy when the lady asks the cop to get her cat out of the tree and the cop smiles and says "Yes, Ma'am" then shoots the cat out of the tree.

LOL

"WELL.....Friends, here it is, ANOTHER example of the LIBERAL style DICTATORSHIP Bill and Hillary tried to bring upon the Frooty Planes...Where 2 little GIRLS can't even sell KOOL-AID with out the Big Bad Government sticking their nose into it....We Conservatives believe that the Government should butt OUT of little girls selling Kool-Aid...As well as grocery stores selling tainted meat, big agri-conglomerates like ADM selling un-tried, un-proven GMO's , etc....Ha-RUMPFH!!!"...

9. These kids have no excuse.
The least they could do is license their business. They'll make the money back with their dividend tax cut.

11. State Fairgrounds are in Falcon Heights.
Edited on Fri Aug-29-03 10:26 AM by preciousdove
The St Anthony Police patrol there. Falcon Heights extends a few blocks south of Larpenteur. The rest of the area is bounded by St Paul. I know that when I called about drug traffic in an appartment buidling on our St Paul block several years ago I was told to take pictures of cars, people and liscence plates and call back in a few weeks. Therefore I am guessing it was St Anthony. They sit on Snelling at Larpenteur and wait for the people going back into St Paul and hit them with fixit tickets. Roseville used to have the contract for Falcon Heights. Never had any problem with them. I think it changed when the larcenous Dr. Dick DDS family was caught in the shoplifting sting and they somehow were accused of improper proceedure during the arrest.

If here was no adult watching the little kids the whole time it was dangerous for the kids. People go missing during the fair since forever and it never hits the papers. Those pimps recruiting at the Mall of America used to work Town Square and Nicolett Mall when I was a teen. I am guessing that they probably have been there forever. In 1982 when I was working as an asst manager at Show Biz Pizza a group headed east stopped in near closing, one guy to one girl showing them a good time. I tried to get the manager to call the police but he didn't want to "lose customers". At the time I had two kids to support by myself and couldn't afford to lose my job. Reagan recession.

13. I wonder if there's as much "truth" to this story as the one in Florida?
Where's the link, anyway?

Here's the real scoop on the Florida incident -- of course the story was blown out of proportion by those anxious to portray government as out of control.

That IS part of their agenda -- make people see the government as incompetent, overbearing and moronic -- basically, the enemy since their agenda is to shrink the size of government. If people have an unfavorable view of government, they'll cheer when it's removed from their lives.

They certainly don't want people to think that government could play an important role in improving the quality of people's lives by spending money on health care, education or infrastructure or social service programs that aid disenfranchised populations.

What I don't get is why so many people here are willing to fall for this distortion. :shrug:

Anyway, here's the real story about the Florida situation:

NAPLES - As portrayed nationwide, the story of the little lemonade girl, the nasty neighbor and big, ugly government goes something like this: A 6-year-old girl in sweltering Southwest Florida tries to make a little summer money by starting a lemonade stand. A crabby neighbor demands that the stand be licensed or shut down. Heavy-handed police officers force the child out of business.
<snip>

For starters, police didn't really shut down the stand, much less arrest any children, as some have claimed. And the city had granted the license without a fee long before the first word about the controversy was broadcast or printed. In truth, it's a rather pedestrian tale of a long-running neighborhood dispute over a carport radio and a neighbor who retaliated for months of complaints from next door by reluctantly asking police to check on the stand.
<snip>

While there are four neighborhood children who work the stand regularly, most of the attention, and promotion, has fallen on Avigayil. She went on Letterman, has given countless interviews and is now going to be the national representative for the Kids Only! Sunny Day Play Lemonade Stand ($24.99), a plastic, ready-to-operate lemonade stand. The boxes will soon carry Avigayil's photo. "It's been a wild ride, and Avi might just get college paid for out of it," Shaw said.

14. It wasn't juice/kool-aid
Edited on Fri Aug-29-03 01:01 PM by gristy
It was cans of pop, bottles of water, and small cartons of, yes, juice. The law is the law. We might not like all of them, but they need to be followed. Hey, I'm 30 and have lightning reflexes. So I can drive 20 mph over the speed limit on the freeway, right?
