Are there any countries that have legalized Gay Marriage?
I want to look up stats on divorce, child abuse, etc in the countries that have legalized gay marriage. Just to disprove Tom Delay's statements on why it was so important to bring up the anti-gay marriage amendment yesterday. We all know it was partisan bullshit to anger the right-wingers but I'd like to debunk the asshole with facts.

6. Norway has legalized gay civil unions, not marriage.
Gays cannot marry, they can form civil unions. The differences are that they cannot adopt other than second/step parent adoptions, and that they cannot have the ceremony in church (Norway has a state church.) Perhaps not any vital differences, but still. It's not quite the same.

4. Spain is probably going to legalize gay marriage
That's why the Catholic Church there is going bananas right now. But it looks like the measure will pass, as it has in many other European countries.

Americans like to believe that we lead the world in freedom and democracy, but we've slipped lately.

5. Thought of another point
I don't have a link, but I heard a guest on NPR one day who had done a study of how many children are being raised by lesbian or gay couples in the United States, and it turns out to be an enormous number. Far more than the media would have you believe.

Some of these same-sex families adopted children or had babies through artificial insemination. A lot of them were divorcees raising their biological children with new, same-sex partners. I am not certain, but I seem to recall that the researcher said that 80% of all United States counties have at least one same-sex family raising a child.

The researcher also said that there were volumes of literature and studies showing that children raised in same-sex families are no worse off than children living in traditional families. No epidemic of mal-adjusted children. None whatsoever.

DeLay and Phyliss Shlafly and all those Republicans in Congress are wrong. They don't have their facts right.
