Boycotting CNN advertisers won't work. What ***WILL*** work...
is to get a list of the advertisers & contact them, preferably by snailmail, telling them you are boycotting them and why. Write your own boilerplate letter and send it to each of the advertisers. Each person can re-use his own letter for each advertiser, but each person should write his won short letter. It can be short, something like

Dear _______

I notice that you advertise heavily on CNN. I wish to inform you that I have decided not to buy any of your products until CNN starts
covering the 2004 election more fairly

(Signed)

But write your own letter so that this is clearly a sign of public outrage, not just some Astroturf campaign. 500 letters like this will mean more than 100,000 pre-printed postcards.

Now we need somebody to watch & collect the names & addies of the advertisers & put them on this thread.

Go to it, & maybe drop back to keep this thread kicked if you like the idea.

Thanks a mil
Jackpine

2. Aren't ratings data collected by Nielsen methodology?
I don't know how my watching or not watching would be counted.

It's academic anyway in my case because I watch so little TV of any kind.

3. Yes but if enough people stop watching ratings will go down
in fact they have steadlly been eroding and contnue to plummt, at one point they will either not be able to sell to advertisers and go out of business, or they will have to ask, what are we doing wrong?

4. do we have a list of advertisors somewhere? I'd be glad to write
Edited on Sat Sep-11-04 12:36 PM by jean
and I mean hand write - however many it would take to notify all the advertisors. Some of those companies might even have multiple departments you could address - their legal department, trademark department...

Help me out all you legal minds out there - what part of a major company would be most sensitive to this? During the purple bandaid effort, I found the customer service departments of the band-aid companies to be ineffectual. But the trademark or legal depts seem to sit up and listen.

"blah blah blah...I am so disgusted with CNN's partisan coverage...blahblah ...and I can't help but associate your product and your company logo with this un-American version of so-called journalism."

7. Crossfire is the only thing worth watching

on CNN, everything else is Bush propaganda.

911 was a lie.

9. Also remind them that CNN is running interference for their Saudi owners..
playing cover up for their longtime support of terrorists.

10. We need snailmail addresses where possible.
You can often find these on the corporate websites.
