60 Minutes II tonight will not be shown in Oklahoma City
I have learned that tonight's episode of 60 Minutes II http://www.cbsnews.com/sections/60II/main3475.shtml which features former Texas House Speaker and Lt. Gov. Ben Barnes' admission that he helped George W. Bush get into the National Guard, is being preempted in Oklahoma City and other areas by paid programming (in OKC it is a show called A TIME TO LIVE). They have moved the 60 Minutes II episode to 3:15am.

10. TIVO the show
Contact CBS in New York, and ask permission to re-broadcast the show on the OKC cable access channel.

Also, contact CBS in New York, and ask them what action they plan to take against their OKC affiliate for not broadcasting the network programming.

Drop a line to the OKC station and register your complaint. Be sure to copy the FCC with a copy of your complaint.

Watch for the time when the station is up for license renewal. Cause a big stink about this at that time. The station will almost certainly get its license renewed, but you can force them to jump through all sorts of bureaucratic hoops.

Enlist three or four friends, and do all of them. They will regret ever screwing around like this if you make the experience uncomfortable enough for them. Sort of like broadcast gonorrhea.

13. This is when....
you take a bunch of your favorite Yella Dawg friends and begin demostrations in front of the TV station.

If they interview you, make sure to mention that the first thing dictators do is take control of the media, like the other DUer said.

If you plan this at the right time, maybe some of us North Texans could even join you.

This is bullshit. You have my sympathies.

Edited on Wed Sep-08-04 04:08 PM by calimary
I just did (2:04 pacific time - business hours not yet over in central timezone) - and they said they were trying real hard to get it back for primetime. Operator sounded frenzied - as though she'd taken about 100,000 calls about this so far and here came ANOTHER one.

DO IT. Be NICE, though. Be gentle and courteous and sweet-voiced. NO threats or hissy fits. It's the NUMBERS that are important here. If they can't swing it for tonight, they may have to bow to public pressure on another night very soon. But there HAS TO BE PUBLIC PRESSURE.

No pressure - no ACTION!!!

Thanks to yelladawg and RedEarth for the phone number.

45. WCTV Tallahassee
Edited on Wed Sep-08-04 05:33 PM by crickets
850-893-6666 x360 (Programming)

I didn't realize until I got home this afternoon at 6pm that WCTV has also scheduled Robert Duvall instead of Barnes. There is no later showing tonight, and no indication of Sunday's program content. The Programming office is already closed and I am so angry I don't trust myself to leave a message yet.

The odd thing is, the front page at CBS.com shows Charlie Rose interviews Hollywood actor Robert Duvall. Clicking on the link to CBSNews.com shows tonight's 60 Minutes as Rather's interview with Ben Barnes. Perhaps the last minute schedule change just isn't being reflected in a timely manner?

I'm going to set up the VCR and hope for the best. If I don't see Dan Rather interviewing Barnes tonight, WCTV gets a polite but ever so emphatic piece of my mind tomorrow.

edited to add: Rather is on CBS News right now talking about Bush's service and the things the 60 Minutes will cover tonight. Whoohoo!

48. Interestingly, same thing happened with the "Ellen" sitcom in upstate NY
a few years ago. During the runup to her much publicized "coming out" episode, the local networks removed it from prime time and put it on in the middle of the night. I, and, apparently, many others complained to the station, and the "offensive" episode aired at its regular time.
