The 53 arrests MSNBC is reporting
are the bicycle people - I think there were 40 some. Liz Winstead reported on this on AAR earlier...

2. Perhaps for riding on the wrong side of the street?
I can't imagine why NY police would want to arrest a bunch of bicyclists.

6. the bike arrests on Fri? All I heard was they were told to ride two
abreast and were arrested if they broke that 'rule.' Who knows for sure, though.

4. My guess is
The cyclists "blocked traffic" yesterday so the police don't like cyclers. Also I noticed a One Way Street sign - and the march was going against the sign. Bicycles are supposed follow vehicular law, so maybe it was a traffic law excuse.

8. here is a link to one story.......
you do know mainstream news basically did not cover the march...C-Span di....so all the regular news wants to report is trouble

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/ap/20040829/ap_on_re_us/cvn_convention_protests

and make that the news instead of the peaceful protest

3. I didn't get that impression. It looked like this was today at the march.
They even said all was a peacful march except for some arrests. They showed a whot of the police, but I still have no idea what the arrests were for.
