Did anyone watch Dean interviewing Jon Stewart last night?
Anyway, I thought everyone did a fantastic job. Dean was actually pretty relaxed throughout the whole show, it gave me a different perspective of him. I didn't think it was possible to like and respect him more, but tonight he was in his element, and I was glad to see it.

Same with Jon Stewart, I have loved him forever and used to watch his Mtv show. His last guest ever was David Letterman, it was great. Letterman never does interviews, and him sitting down with Jon Stewart and giving a real interview was really a treat. I have loved Stewart since high school and he has only ever made me proud.

I didn't really know too much about Travis Smiley but tonight was a good introduction. He made me think a good deal about a lot of things, I liked the other guest as well but I don't remember his name. How often do you see a real conversation about race relations on television, it just doesn't happen and they talk about that too.

When Bev was on, I was so proud to be a DUer and it made me glad that I come here. B/c of this site I was able to thank her for all she is doing for us. We have to do something about this, I am going to start call all the news networks and demand coverage of BBV. I'll have a list up tomorrow of the networks phone #'s. I encourage people to call, if anything it is a nuisance and wastes their time and money.

Margaret Cho is pretty funny and I was glad to see someone standing up for gay people, no one ever does. Big thanks to Margaret for all of my gay friends.

It was so wonderful to see something on tv that made sense for once, everyone was calm and everyone got to speak their minds. I have never seen anything like it and I look forward to the rest of the week with Dean.

So just a reminder to anyone interested, please tape this, showing this to other people makes our jobs so much easier. Also it gives me a lot of hope to know that people as thoughtful and intelligent as they are, are on our side.

Take care Duers.

To the next 2 1/2 months, may they be filled with wisdom and justice

:toast:

BUSH WILL LOSE!!!

1. The bad news is...
"Topic A"is not a daily program; it's on Sunday only, so there will not be more programs from Howard.

2. I thought it was great that Dean played the clip of JS making fun of him
Dean is a very classy guy who ain't afraid to poke fun at himself.

I also liked the way JS said DOCTOR Dean.

15. David Letterman was the last guest on the Jon Stewart show.
It was a good interview and you can see that Jon Stewart is a protegee of Letterman's.

Letterman was really nice to Jon and told him that even though he show was cancelled he still thought that Jon would do just fine. It was a touching show, you know that it meant a lot to Jon for Letterman to agree to it.

There is a transcript for the episode, it was funny cause Letterman talks about Paul Newman making him a suped up volvo.

Anyway I just thought that last night was one of the best hours of TV in a long time, and it was hands down one of the most important hours of TV in years.

5. I thought Jon Stewart's last guest on MTV was Marilyn Manson?
Edited on Mon Aug-09-04 12:01 PM by khephra
And they destroyed his set for Jon on the last show. Or am I confusing Jon's shows? I know for sure that it was one of his last shows, but I think he may be on his fourth or fifth show by now. The first time I remember seeing him was on the old Comedy Channel before it merged with that other comedy channel to become Comedy Central. He co-hosted a clip show that was only worth watching because of Jon, iirc.

Dean was really great last night. VERY relaxed. I can't see why he wouldn't want to do a tv show--he's a natural for it.

6. I wasn't quite right...it was his syndicated show that came after MTV
In September 1994, Stewart's show jumped to syndicated TV, but lasted only 10 months. Still, he remembers several memorable moments.

"A guy brought trained condors and one flew out in the audience, and we stood there dumbstruck while it bit an audience member's back, '' Stewart says. "I was staring at this huge bird gawking in the audience. The trainer's sitting there, `Hey, man, maybe you should go to commercial.' And I said , `Hey, maybe you should get your bird.' The next night, Marilyn Manson was on and they ended up lighting the stage on fire. I really thought somebody was going to be killed that week.'"

16. I remember that show! Stewart was great back then, too.
I am glad he has returned to prominence. Anyone remember "Talk Show Jon", the sketches starring action figures? "My guest was Captain Picard..."

7. A show for Dean
I agree, but he said at the end, "This job is a lot harder than it looks," so I'm not holding my breath.

8. I really enjoyed it too!
Dean was great. But I would hate to see him become just another talking head. He has important work to do and I'd rather have him out there getting stuff done and being a guest on shows.

Jon Stewart was completely unafraid to tell it like it is, when he said that TDS was totally aware of the fact that they were being used to help spin the Dean Scream and Dean admitted this was the case.

I thought the end of the Stewart interview was priceless when Jon said "Thank You" and Dean said, "Thanks for having me on." They both caught it and laughed about it. You can tell these men have a lot of respect for each other.

10. CNBC is reading their mail on the show last night with Dean.
I wrote and thanked them for such a nice show, told them we thought Dean did well. I thanked them for the other shows such as McEnroe and Deutsch that allow for intelligent debate.

I heard back from them today, and they are paying attention to the mails. If you enjoyed the show last night, or the McEnroe show the other night, let them know.

14. You mean Jon Stewart interviewing Dean... LOL
At the end of the interview, Dean said, "Thanks for having me on". LOL.

To answer you question, yes, I saw it. I caught the repeat. It was really good. It kept feeling like Stewart was trying to see if he could take control of the interview, and in the end it looks like he managed to. He's good.

17. Dean did well as a novice against such a pro.
I commend him for having the courage to have Jon Stewart as his first guest.
