Anniversary of the March on Washington...Could it have happened today?
I watched the Today Show's report on Martin Luther King and the peaceful March on Washington this morning. I was moved to tears as the narrator talked about how King, energized, departed from written pages to deliver one of the most memorable speeches in history. Segregation laws were changed within a year.

I thought about the media today--and truly doubt that the world would have known that Martin Luther King delivered that great speech had he done it now. I know he would have been shut out by the "liberal" media. This saddens me to more tears because there are voices out there that we aren't hearing and may never hear as our democracy continues to be stolen.

To think that it's not just the government but ordinary citizens who are aiding in the theft of freedom of speech is inconceivable and yet true. I just left another board where a poster asked if anyone was interested in protesting to bring the soldiers home. A freeper replied:

Protests mean nothing, the administration is going to do what they feel is best, that is why I never understood protesting in the first place. It means nothing, all it does is costs tax payers more money because they have to police them so they stay under control.

Ugh.

I reminded them of King's march.

What are your thoughts about this?

1. In the political and social climate of 2003
There would be no Martin Luther King Jr (at the very least he'd be marginalized) and no March on Washington.

4. An allout march on Washington should take place if...........
the BASTARDS try and push more of the unpatriotic patriot act through congress! Folks we are watching MAJOR erosion of our civil rights taking place and we ain't got the BALLS to stand up to these NAZIS! We need to strongly PROTEST the Patriot Act!

5. The next time we need to send a message to DC, perhaps we
should take a leaf from Ras Tafari's book? Paraphrase his mobilisation order against the Italians. Something like:
Everyone who is old enough, tie a red ribbon or cloth around your arm and come to Washington on Friday. Bring a friend. We will meet at the Washington monument at noon, and from there go to Congress and the White House to tell them what we want them to do
