Question to people that dislike Clark
If he does win the nomination, would you support him no matter who his VP was or would you go green? How about if Dean was his VP?

On a side note, I think if Dean doesn't become prez or vp he should be the chairman of the DNC, Terry sucks.

1. Clark and Lieberman
are the only two that are radioactive in my opinion.
All the other democrats can redeem their sins.

2. What are Clark's sins?
I'm just curious. He was far more anti-war than Kerry, Gephardt, Edwards and certainly Lieberman.

4. He still has not come out and said he was a Dem
Edited on Fri Aug-22-03 05:35 PM by mandyky
until that happens, he is not a Dem candidate. When or if it happens, I wannna hear the exact date he became a Dem. We do not need to run a non-Dem to win.

I do not dislike Clark, I think he'd make a great VP until we can figure out if he is a Dem or not. ;)

7. EVERY public stance taken by Wesley Clark ....
Has been SOLIDLY progessive in Philosophy .... He is more 'Democrat' in his policy choices than half of the current crop of declared Democratic Party candidates ...

The man is a Democrat, by all means: .... but he MUST actually RUN to win ....

Ill support Clark OR Dean OR Kerry OR Edwards OR Gephardt OR Mosely Braun OR Sharpton OR Liebermann ....

ANY Democrat over Bush .....

5. Clark won't get it..
He has no civilian foreign policy experience, which will be necessary in the 2004 election as opposed to 2000 when Americans could care less about foreign policy.

6. I'll support Clark 100%.
Clark is reasonable on the issues, and opposes the Iraq war, which is good enough for me.

But can he rumble with the heavyweights like Gephardt, Dean, Kerry, and Bush? It remains to be seen if Clark can raise money, organize support, blah blah blah.

9. That's the whole thing
and we just don't know the answer. The man has ZERO experience at running a campaign for elective office.

The simple fact that he's a general may get him some credibility on defense issues, but he is neither universally known nor particularly thought of as a hero (although his record is certainly heroic).

A general's job functions along clear lines. He is the boss over everybody under him, and answers to everybody above him. The skills of negotiation and compromise are not so vital in a disciplined military unit as they would be in pushing a legislative agenda.

Just because I am not willing to jump on the bandwagon of an unproven candidate who isn't running and hasn't declared himself a Democrat doesn't mean I "don't like" him at all. But Clark has a long way to go to EARN votes for the nomination, IMO.

12. Primaries

"The man has ZERO experience at running a campaign for elective office."

The primaries will fix that in a hurry. Either Clark will be a strong campaigner and he will have a shot, or he won't and no one will vote for him.

No one is demanding that everyone else step aside and let Clark be acclaimed.

17. Well said, Adjoran. Many of us feel the same way about Clark.....doesn't
mean we oppose him running......but his inexperience in major areas needs to be pointed out.

10. I don't know why he'd run
He has no political experience. He may, as a General, think
he knows how to fix anything, but in my experience, just
having a military background, doesn't make you capable
of negotiating with a Congress and really fixing domestic problems here.

I applaud his connections with foreign leaders and think
that would be his strength, but frankly I don't know where
he stands on anything else.

On the other hand, maybe a military guy for four years
to fix diplomatic ties would be a good thing...if that's
his intention...not just to prolong this nation building.
I intend voting for Hillary in '06, so work it out
among yourselves.

11. Clark's more progressive than Dean and a Rhodes scholar and first in his..
class at West Point and a successful NATO general and ethnically a half Jewish Southerner and much more.

13. Don't like him or dislike him particularly.
I do think he'd have an ok chance of winning. Though he'd be best as part of a Dean/Clack ticket.

He's not going to get more than a few % in every primary he enters. He's not Eisenhower.

16. Dean may very well have the momentum to stay in front.
I would like to see a Dean/Clark ticket.
Is it common to select a VP running mate that was defeated in the primaries?

18. I don't dislike Clark.
I don't know enough about him to like him or dislike him one way or another. If he decides to run, I'll pay attention to him. I won't pay any attention one way or another to any "rumored might run" candidates until they **** or get off the pot.

I have an ingrained, natural feeling of distrust, not dislike. That's because he is connected to the military, which represents male aggression and domination to me. That doesn't mean I won't give him a fair hearing. I won't be voting for him in the primary. My vote goes to the candidate who engenders enthusiasm, trust, and hope for a better (according to my values) America. That would be Dennis Kucinich.

Should Clark win the nomination, I will probably vote for him. Unless, according to what I learn about him, I perceive him as no better than *. He'd have to be pretty bad to meet that "no vote" criteria.

20. What are you talking about?
Edited on Sun Aug-24-03 10:47 AM by chaska
We have been promoting our candidate under a constant barrage of shit from a handful of Rovian operatives trying to keep him out of the race ... so their candidates can go on to lose to bush in November '04.

As far as I know, the Clark campaign is the only campaign that has a policy of not attacking the other candidates.
