We haven't had a Republican mayor or a Republican majority in the City Council since I can remember and I'm 50 years old.

We are diverse, liberal and as open a society as there is in the U.S., I think. Other contenders in my opinion would be Portland, Ore., San Francisco, Ca. and Boston, Ma.
