VERY cool website for news!
http://www.marumushi.com/apps/newsmap/newsmap.cfm

It's got some sort of treemap algorhythm working and it shows patterns in the newsstories, like it maps them in a way that shows patterns...

1. How do you find this useful?
I haven't delved into it deeply and would like to know why you like it.

3. Is is kinda neat
The story about "Bush is Wary of Intelligence Post" is bigger because it was picked up by more news sources than the "Kerry: Bush is Failing Citizens" story. But bigger than both stories is the one about the missing Utah woman.

You can tell at a glance what is getting the most coverage across the country.

7. What Robbien below said
It not only shows you the stories, it shows them in relation to each other, what the bias are, what's being hyped, what's doing down rabbit holes, in almost real time,

2. Wow, that is neat.
It's kind of overwhelming, so it took me a little study to figure out what it seems they're doing:

The brightness of the color represents the recentness of a news story. The size of the block represents how many articles Google News has references to in its database. Stories that don't have as much play in the press will look smaller on this map than stories with a lot of exposure.

At least I think that's how it works. If it does, I can see how one might use this over time to see how news stories really skew.

4. Did you see the story about the Vatican criticizing the lethal effects
of Feminism.

The bad part of this is that you cannot click on the box and go to a story.

5. I can
Perhaps you need to adjust your browser settings. If this is Java-enabled, then you need to be able run Java, etc.

I agree, this is an interesting site.

20. Didn't work with Mozilla 1.7 for me.
Tried resetting a few times with no luck.

It sounds similar to Google's news page.

24. sort of, except it also shows the visual relationship
of the news being reported to the unseen patterns of how they are being reported, media bias, etc.

23. I'm running Mozilla, it's working fine...
You may want to check some of the hundreds of settings in your browser. Newsmap looks to be written in Cold Fusion.
