Urgent if true: Just heard on Ed Schultz Show......
A caller from Arizona said that a 15 year old who went for their driver's license had to sign a form that said that they had to Promise to serve in the Military if a Draft came to past!

Ed will look into it.

:wtf: is this???

1. Would that be the Selective Service registration form?
Edited on Fri Jul-30-04 03:38 PM by htuttle
Fifteen is kind of young to be required to sign one of those. That's bull.

on edit: Clarification

I don't think the story is bull. I think it's wrong to require a 15 year old to register for Selective Service.

2. Don't know about drivers licenses, but

iirc you need to register in order to be eligible for federal financial aid for college.

Nothing about drivers licenses here.

http://www.sss.gov/FSbenefits.htm

Here it is. http://www.sss.gov/fsstateleg.htm Apparently some states have additional penalties for not registering. Arizona "requires Arizona men, 18 through 25 years old, to be registered to obtain a state driver's license."

3. Could be a state law.
I don't think Wisconsin enacted such legislation.

4. Yes, I though SS registration was 18
15 is non-sensical. You still need a work permit afterall, not to mention a driver's license.

8. That bill still says 18
if you will be 18 when you go get a license, renewal, or even a photo ID.

6. You need to register to receive an education loan
from Sallie Mae. Guess that doesn't apply to the top 2%

7. Legally, you have to be at least 18
to do something like this without your parent's signature.

11. With all of the restrictions on driver's licenses these days
that have nothing whatsoever to do with one's driving ability or record, it would hardly be surprising.

12. Somebody is confused
That sounds like a Selective Service form, which every man over the age of 18 has to sign.
