Will you vote for any Democrat who votes for Patriot Act II?
It is a question that begs for an answer.

Since some Demos voted in favor of this attack on personal freedoms, among them certain Democratic presidential candidates, would you be inclined to vote for ANY of those who will vote for Patriot Act II? Patriot Act II would tighten the noose even further and could even result in banning forums such as DU and go after any of who criticize the current regime.

Love to get your answers.

John

8. Not flame bait.
Just an honest question. Come on! You know it was foolish for them to support this attack on our rights! It was an attack! And they may vote for PA II? Oh man! Cantwell and Murray would lose my vote so fast if they support this!

And he's doing just fine, thank you. Wonder why more people didn't join him, including several presidential candidates.

20. No - its about the NEXT patriot act (that ascroft is pushing)...
I can see how in the minutes after 911 (and that is about how fast the admin and ashcroft pushed it) someone voted for it without really understanding everything in it - and resting on the "it sunsets out in three years" reasoning.

While I would prefer on such serious matters more would have pushed for more time and a more serious read - it was a very strange time.

HOWEVER THIS question is about Ashcrofts PatriotII. It removes the sunset and gives authorities even more unchecked powers. I think all sitting in congress now, and how they vote on this when it comes up, really have the time this time around to think about it and vote accordingly.

Likewise I think that it is completely legitimate to watch that vote, esp with those running for president, closely.

6. When Satan runs a snowcone stand in downtown Hell!
While I don't excuse anyone's vote for Fascist Act I, I understand how it passed, given the times and the collective shock of the entire nation. However, the fact that apparently none of them even bothered to read the damn thing greatly disturbed me at the time and even more so since we now know the intentions of Asscrotch and friends.

Anyone voting for more of this Nazi bullshit - whether they have read it or not - will have no excuse whatsoever :grr:

18. not a chance in hell
Ignorance Is Strength
War Is Peace
Freedom Is Slavery

Well, Fox represents the first, 'pre-emptive attacks' on other nations represents the second, and the passing of a Patriot Act II would bring us full circle to twenty years past - 1984 come again...
let's not voluntarily leap into an orwellian nightmare by voting for supporters of this atrocity. I can scarcely stomach my distaste at the thought of voting for a supporter of the first, but it would be worth it to remove the Monkey King.
Anyone who supports a second, though, is obviously not going to enough of an improvement, and we need to STOP the slide into an orwellian nightmare, not just slow it.

Any Dem that votes for it is an ass-kisser, plain and simple.

I would, however, think about voting for a Republican who votes AGAINST Facist Act II. The Congressman in my neighboring district, Jim Sensenbrenner (a Republican) has come out and claimed to vote for it "over my dead body".

I guess they're not all bad.

27. Here you go
" The USA PATRIOT Act, passed by Congress shortly after September 11, 2001, increases government surveillance, detention and other law enforcement powers while reducing basic checks and balances on such powers. The Department of Justice is currently drafting legislation designed as a sequel to the USA PATRIOT Act.<1> A draft copy of this legislation, dated January 2003, recently became available.<2>

The draft legislation, which has been dubbed “Patriot Act 2,” would grant sweeping powers to the government, eliminating or weakening many of the checks and balances that remained on government surveillance, wiretapping, detention and criminal prosecution even after passage of the USA PATRIOT Act."

"1. Summary of Key Provisions

The Domestic Security Enhancement Act (also called “Patriot Act 2”):

-Further dismantles court review of surveillance, such as by terminating court-approved limits on police spying on religious and political activity (sec. 312), allowing the government to obtain credit records and library records secretly and without judicial oversight (secs. 126, 128, 129), and by allowing wiretaps without a court order for up to 15 days following a terrorist attack (sec. 103);

-Allows government to operate in secret by authorizing secret arrests (sec. 201), and imposing severe restrictions on the release of information about the hazards to the community posed by chemical and other plants (sec. 202);

-Further expands the reach of an already overbroad definition of terrorism so that organizations engaged in civil disobedience are at risk of government wiretapping (secs. 120, 121) asset seizure (secs. 428, 428), and their supporters could even risk losing their citizenship (sec. 501);

-Gives foreign dictatorships the power to seek searches and seizures in the United States (sec. 321), and to extradite American citizens to face trial in foreign courts (sec. 322), even if the United States Senate has not approved a treaty with that government; and

-Unfairly targets immigrants under the pretext of fighting terrorism by stripping even lawful immigrants of the right to a fair deportation hearing and stripping the federal courts of their power to correct unlawful actions by the immigration authorities (secs. 503, 504)."

31. This can't be true.
Some of the aspects are good but go over the line such as this part.

Gives foreign dictatorships the power to seek searches and seizures in the United States (sec. 321), and to extradite American citizens to face trial in foreign courts (sec. 322), even if the United States Senate has not approved a treaty with that government; and

-Unfairly targets immigrants under the pretext of fighting terrorism by stripping even lawful immigrants of the right to a fair deportation hearing and stripping the federal courts of their power to correct unlawful actions by the immigration authorities

Are you kidding me or are you serious about this "Patriot Act II"? I also spotted this part.

The USA PATRIOT Act, passed by Congress

So from what I know US Patriot Act II is a sequal to US Patriot Act, am I correct? Also, can you tell me the information on the original patriot act?

This part worries me the most:

" organizations engaged in civil disobedience are at risk of government wiretapping (secs. 120, 121) asset seizure (secs. 428, 428), and their supporters could even risk losing their citizenship (sec. 501);"
