About bush's blackout statement
Didn't he assure us that it was not terrorist reealted? No way, right?

And didn't al qeada supposedly take credit for it shortly thereafter?

Shouldn't this discrepancy be a big deal, coming from the man who has made "smoking out them evidoers" his defining crusade? I mean, this is the one thing he keeps hammering away at, right?

Seems like a pretty big screw-up coming from our "saviour," imho.

9. Here's a reference
http://www.chronwatch.com/editorial/contentDisplay.asp?aid=3943

Al-Qa'ida's Abu Hafs Brigades has claimed responsibility for ''Operation Quick Lightning in the Land of the Tyrant of this Generation,'' referring to the blackout last week in the Northeast and Midwest United States. A communiqué by the Abu Hafs Brigades was published at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/abubanan2/message/330. This is the third communiqué by the ''Brigades'' that is being published by the same web-group; in the first, they accepted responsibility for the downing of an airplane in Kenya. The second accepted responsibility for the Jakarta bombing of the Marriott hotel on August 5, 2003.

The new communiqué says that in compliance with the orders of Osama bin Laden to strike at the American economy, the Brigades struck two important electricity supply targets on the East coast. The Brigades say that they cannot reveal how they did it, because they will probably have to use the same method again soon. The communiqué also claimed that the operation was meant as a present for the Iraqi people.

2. They want to keep us calm
meantime some computer hacker of no political affiliation could have been involved. Have you noticed how many computer viruses are around lately? Why is it impossible to assume a hacker was involved with the blackout? Or is it possible Al Qeada is recruiting hackers or educating their own?

Boobs like Tom Ridge have no comprehension how to fight this thing. I imagine they're pretty scared right now.

3. Al Queada took credit? Link please.
Sounds like an urban legend in the making to me. I doubt they were involved, it'd be all over the news were it so.

4. It Certainly Gives Ideas to Whomever
Somebody posted here at the time that having the mass of humanity streaming out in the streets was surely an invitation to some other kind of attack - gas or whatever.

Oh, well, so long as Shrub is not interrupted at his golf.

5. way more disturbing was his comment
"that's a domestic matter that needs no address from the White House" or words to that affect.

The WH is not apparently involved in the day to day issues in America. No shit.

They are painting him as this foreign affairs genius and some people actually F******* believe it.

7. Do you mean the blackout he was operating out of or
the power failure? Yes I heard al quada take credit, but, I've got to believe it's due more so to an old system that won't get fixed because we're spending too much money building an empire at the moment.

8. LINK
Here's one link I could find quickly, but I saw this reported by one of the major nets the other day, thought for sure this had been discussed at DU. Also heard talk of it on a morning radio show yesterday...

I'm at work, will find a major news link as soon as I can...

10. There's been so much spinning about the cause of the blackout
that I'm surprised that nobody's spinning that it never happened.

Portions of several states and part of Canada just closed their eyes for a time, some for hours, some for days.

Oh, and that extra payment at the bottom of your electric bill? Take your meds, you're hallucinating again.

11. Every terrorist group on Earth probably took credit for it.
After a disaster or big event, every terrorist group on planet Earth takes credit for it -- e.g. when a plane blows up, terrorism or not, the FBI gets hundreds of calls claiming responsibility. Everyone from Al Qaeda to Sinn Fein to Ted Kazinski to That Fat Guy Sitting At The End Of The Bar.

Why go to all that trouble blowing up a power grid when it happens all on its own and you can take credit for it?
