I need to know from the computer whizzes - does it work to use the unsubcribe option provided? Will I be haunted for life by these evil, evil creatures?

11. There's this thing if you get Yahoo! mail and sign up...

...for this extra service (though I haven't used it yet), and what it is is it allows you to tack numbers at the end of your email address, and if you give each site a unique one with a unique number, you can tell who's giving your address to who! And if one address gets way out of control you just yank it and nobody can send mail to in anymore. It'd be interesting to see who sells your stuff to who.

I seem to recall that there's a spamgourmet.com which allows you to create self destructing e-mail addresses. I have a friend who's a sysadmin at a large research facility who swears by it.

I don't sign up for stuff, so I don't feel the need to use it. But for folks who do, it prevents any more than the specified number of messages from getting through.
