Did anyone hear the NPR report this morning on ALEXANDER placing 4th at
the Box office this past weekend?

They did a whole deal about how it was bad for Disney being it's whoozits flop this year after costing $150Million to produce.

Problem is I don't think Alexander opens until November, and I don't think Oliver Stone would choose Disney to distribute it. I *could* be wrong.

F911 was #4 this weekend.

WTF was that all about?

2. Flub.
They may have been thinking of "King Arthur," which came in at #3 in the final counts, but #4 on some early projections. (It had a better Sunday than was expected.)

As for Alexander, data from IMDBPro:

Alexander (2004) USA...

IN PRODUCTION

Status: Post-production
Start Date: 22 September 2003
Release Date: 5 November 2004
Production Co: Intermedia Films
Distributor: Warner Bros.
Genre: Adventure / Drama / War /
Summary: Alexander, the King of Macedonia and one of the greatest military leaders in the history of warfare, conquers much of the known world.

So it's not out yet, and it's not even Disney. They must have been talking about "Arthur."

3. I figured that was probably it...
I was kinda ticked at myself for missing the opening!

Is Buena Vista a Disney company?

5. Yes.
"Buena Vista" is the distribution arm for Disney, Touchstone, and all Disney imprints except Miramax, who maintain their own distribution structure.

And as a movie theater owner, let me say that the people who work for Buena Vista are some of the friendliest people in the business.

4. Alas, poor Disney!
Disney's had nothing BUT flops this year.

Teacher's Pet
Miracle
Hidalgo
Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen
The Ladykillers
Home On The Range
The Alamo
Raising Helen
Around The World In 80 Days
America's Heart and Soul
King Arthur

Not one of them broke or likely to break the $100M mark. "Teacher's Pet" didn't even break $10M.

It even looks like they aren't going to bother releasing "2046" in the States, probably knowing it would flop.

Even their Miramax arm has been hurting; nothing this year over $50M except for "Kill Bill Vol. 2."

Between losing Pixar AND losing "F911," I wouldn't want to be Mickey Eisner at the next shareholder's meeting.
