Cheney lowering expectations for his debate performance against Edwards.
The story is from our local Raleigh NC news station.

In the last paragraph, I think Cheney is trying to slam John Edwards for being a lawyer (which is expected) AND tries to lower the expectations for his own performance at the VP debate.

He knows Edwards is going to chew him up and spit him out at that debate.

Cheney Looking Forward To Debate With Edwards

RALEIGH, N.C. -- As President George W. Bush campaigns in Pennsylvania Friday, Vice President Dick Cheney talked with WRAL's David Crabtree from campaign headquarters in Arlington, Va.

Cheney talked about a variety of issues including Iraq, his health, and his opponent for vice president, Sen. John Edwards.

How do the men stack up?

"I think that may be a factor for some voters, but the race turns primarily on the the president and his challenger. I don't think there are many people who go to the polls for a vice presidential candidate," he said.

Cheney looks forward to a debate with Edwards scheduled for Oct. 5.

"Debates are always a fascinating part of this process," he said. "I debated frequently when I campaigned for Congress and in the last camapign. John Edwards is a man with considerable skills in this area. He's made millions arguing cases before juries, so it should be an interesting evening."

3. Let's not underestimate the expectations game
Recall the 2000 debates: the repugs/mediots (same thing) lowered expectations for the idiot asshole to such an extent, that even though Gore kicked his sorry ass, the dumbass was declared the "winner" of the debates. My wife & I would watch the debate, think "YESSS! what an ass-kicking!", then a mediot would "analyze" the debate and conclude that the bushler won. "WHAAAAAT?!? Did we just watch the same debate?!?"

9. No, they hadn't yet realized the depth of media corruption.
The rest of the campaign, the recount, and the ensuing years have taught us all a lot about those whores.

.
Ann Richards said that's what happened in the Governor's race in Texas. Everyone lowered their expectations for Dubya, so that when he didn't pee his pants on stage, he was declared the victor.

She was cautioning the national media against this in 2000 (I saw her say all this on Larry King), but Rove made it happen anyway.

Gore kicked Bush's ass in every debate, but not according to the idiot pundits. They had lowered their expectations because they were suckered by Rove et al.

Cheney is obviously trying this tactic for the debate with Edwards.

7. Chris Matthews on the 2000 Debates
"I couldn't believe the number of people who chickened out last night. It was clear to me - and I'm no fan of either of these guys entirely, and I can ertainly say that about the one who I thought won last night, that's Al Gore - I thought he cleaned the other guy's clock, and I said so last night. All four national polls agreed with that...I don't understand why people are afraid to say so."

That was his sole moment of clarity in the 2000 elections.

6. Cheney will try to talk about fear, Edwards about hope. Who will win?
Cheney is a pretty frightening guy. Edwards is a pretty optimistic guy.

Matter meets anti-matter. What will happen?

12. A republican versus republican debate. How easy for him. /sarcasm
(I don't like Joe--he is such an apologist for the crooks in the Administration.)

13. Cheneys fortune on debate ...

Cheney claimed in his 2000 debate that the government had nothing to do with his wealth. This of course was an absolute lie since he leveraged his contacts on capital hill to swing Halliburton all kinds of contracts.

Lieberman didn't call him on this in 2000. I hope Edwards MAKES SURE to point this out in 2004.

14. Cheney was lucky
that he had to "debate" someone as weak as Lieberman.

I sat there thinking, "what is this crap?". Lieberman didn't call him on anything. It was a disaster.
