It's No Wonder Polls Show Americans Are Losing Esteem For Canada!
On Meet the Press...Brian Williams just showed a clip of the mayor of Toronto saying (re the power blackout) "Have you ever seen the Americans take the blame for anything?"....I've seen this clip shown several times on CNN and other networks over the last couple of days...It makes it look like Mayor Lastman was making this statement out of the blue...What Williams and the others never show is the rest of it. I saw it live....Lastman was responding to a reporter who had just asked him if he had heard what the Mayor of New York had said? In his first press conference Bloomberg had said "We all know the problem was caused in Canada."....This irresponsible statement Bloomberg made when nobody knew ANYTHING of what the cause was...(As it turns out the problem seems to have originated in Ohio or Michigan). Mayor Lastman often speaks undiplomatically, but in this case he was angered by what Bloomberg had said....This distortion bugs me because it just adds to the perception by many Americans that "Canada is causing trouble again!"....I have posted in this forum before my concern that the friendship between our two countries, which has endured for hundreds of years seems to be taking a hit since Bush came into office and I think it's important that we stay good friends!

1. Bloomberg should thank Canada for its energy sources
Maybe we need school courses now on why Canada
is a good neighbor.

2. Why is Canada being blamed?
Well, this administration is too busy caring about the countries that SUPPORTED the terrorism against the US to care about Canada....except to use it as a scapegoat for problems that originated in the US. :eyes:

caught something on FOX news, one of them was talking about Canada's condescension (I don't know what they were talking about, I was just channel surfing and caught a few seconds of talk) and one of the dudes said that there was looting in Canada, but that americans were well-behaved...

well la de da.....

6. There was a very small amount of looting just as there was in New York
The citizens were well-behaved in both countries...Fox and others of course jumped on the looting in Ottawa ....22 establishments looted, so it wasn't that bad. They are trying to make those damn Canadians who wouldn't go to war with Georgie into villains...

8. They curry the favour of the very people who SUPPORTED the 9/11 terrorists
yet save their wrath for a country that's never harmed it. They are evil and nuts......

3. Lastman's right in general
But in this case the Canadian government also jumped the gun by blaming it on fires in New York state power plants.

4. It's not just Canada
Bush has done his best to alienate all of our friends. I love Canada, we have a cabin in NW Ontario, my Uncle lived in Chatam for 20 years and my cousins were born there.

7. I just got back from Vancouver
My first trip to Canada. What an incredible, beautiful place, with wonderful people.

It reminds me of how it used to feel in the United States years ago.

I saw that thing on MTP. Outrageous, because it was in response to Mayor BloomingIdiot blaming Canada for the outage.

9. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay!...This shows how the press can cause
any perception they wish by just omitting part of a news clip.

13. Several things struck me about B.C.
During four days in Vancouver and one in Whistler, I heard exactly ONE siren...an ambulance. I saw (or noticed I should say) exactly ONE police car during the entire stay. There was no sense of threat from government types. On the border going in, the Canadian border guy was very friendly and welcomed me to Canada after a few perfunctory and polite questions. On the way back in to the U.S., the border guy was an obnoxious prick, asked intimidating and insulting questions and waved me threw the gate with a snort.

Stanley Park is an example of how a city can be a world class city using nature instead of destroying it.

What a gorgeous country. :-)

12. Bloomberg is an a*hole! He told us to open the windows
"because it's hot" and once he got power said to the rest of us: "who cares if it's hours or days?" Pataki also shot his mouth irresponsably accusing Canada. The Toronto mayor was almost right - he should have specified GOP-ers rather than Americans. As for the polls - you should know by know they don't really represent us more that the junta in DC does.

14. the heat's making everyone punchy
It looks like the problem started in Ohio, then moved into Canada and on into New York. So when Bloomberg said the problem began in Canada, he might not have been lying outright. He might have been speaking from his limited knowledge of the situation in New York state.

And Lastman's offended nearly everyone else during his mayoralty. I guess it was just the Americans turn.

15. Just like the states.
If your state, overall, voted for the shrub...this administration favors you. Canada didn't support the invasion, rightly so, and will now get it's just dessert (his thinking, not mine)from the shrub. He has an extremely vengeful personality.....spiteful @sshole! Look at what they have done to CA.

The shrub thinks about himself and his rich cronies ONLY. He doesn't care what anyone thinks because he thinks he's indestructable...the almighty power of the world. As soon as the @sshole is voted out of office, Canada and the U.S. will be on the same page again. We are still friends with Canada. I'm sure the Canadian citizens don't blame the U.S. citizens for the crap this administration does and the U.S. citizens have the ability to see through the bullcrap that this administration is feeding us about Canada...not to worry. The rabid right wing citizens are the ones who will believe the crap he dishes out, but the "thinking" citizens, won't.

I could swear I heard Bloomberg say something about getting some temporary power from Canada? Did I dream that? He really shouldn't bite the hand that could give power to his state, ya think? He owes Canada an apology!

Irish-Americans invaded Canada right after the Civil War. We haven't always been friends.
