Republicans go to war..... with each other..... NEOCON vs. PALEOCON
Edited on Sat Jun-26-04 10:04 AM by sgr2
From the article "Rumble on the Right" in this months Vanity Fair. The Paleoconservatives vs. the Neocons. I don't have a link but I am entering these quotes as it appears.....

Bush speechwriter David Frum, famous for writing the "axis of evil" Bush tagline:

There is... a fringe attached to the conservative world that cannot overcome its despair and alienation. The resentments are too intense, the bitterness too unappeasable. Only the boldest of them as yet explicity acknowledge their wish to see the United States defeated in the war on terror. But they are thinking about defeat, and wishing for it, and they will take pleasure in it if it should happen.

They began by hating the neoconservatives. They came to hate their party and this president. They have finished by hating their country.

War is a great clarifier. It forces people to take sides. The paleoconservatives have chosen - and the rest of us must choose too. In a time of danger, they have turned their back on their country. Now we turn our backs on them.

Wow Dave, tell us what you really think! Nothing like calling your party-members traitors to their nation.

And just for fun, lets read Paleoconservative Pat Buchanon's response:

With Iraq turning into the Mesopotamian morass some of us warned it would become, the neo-Jacobins have decided they are not going to be the ones to ride the tumbrels. In times like these, character comes through. By turning on the men they persuaded to go to war, by fabricating alibis and inventing excuses to absolve themselves of culpability for what they labored to create, they have revealed themselves for what they are:hustlers and opportunists devoid of principle, driven by ideology of power and a passionate attachment to a nation not their own.

The old right curmudgeons who warned us against giving these vagabonds food, shelter and a warm place by the fire were right. We should have put them back on the street...

With the sitaution in Iraq deteriorating, the neocon agenda is to widen the war into Syria, Iran and perhaps Saudi Arabia, and convert it into "World-War IV," the war of their dreams, a war of civilizations, an Armageddon, with America and Israel on one side and Islam on the other.

FOOD FIGHT!

1. That entire issue of "Vanity Fair" is EXCELLENT!
First of all, the cover of the delicious David Beckham... rrrrow!

In addition to that article about the Right-Wing Split, there's also a Skull & Bones piece, and a truly fabulous article about "The Women of George W Bush." Hilarious stuff in there about Karen Hughes and Condi, in particular!

4. He may look good, but that choke-artist...
Needs to learn how to kick penalty shots. He shanked one and it sent his team out of the Euro Championship. God save the Queen!

5. Awww, give Becks a break. He wasn't the only one who missed.
Yes, he shanked it quite embarrassingly, but I doubt England is keen to kick him off the team or anything. :-)

7. He's done that before...
Although he is the team captain, he's going to be on that team through at least the next World Cup. I don't think they have the speed to be competitive though.

9. The same thing happened toward the end of WWII
It was not enough to be a 6th generation German or a member of the NAZI party. The end of a hierarchal system of discrimination and hatred was beginning to digest itself. NAZI's began executing NAZI's.

This highlights the stupidity of Plato's Republic, and the stupidity of modern Republicans.

First, a nation is sold on the concept of discrimination. Families First!; Homosexuals are non-deserving sinners; Blacks are ... well Blacks; the Rugheads are savage murderers; Native Americans are heathens; the Vietnamese are not even human, but animals without emotion; They do not have children, so they do not need training or overtime. The bill of rights do not apply to this group, and on forever. Soon....

Only a white married man with kids who is a conservative republican fundamentalist Christian wounded veteran member of the NRA with 3 flag decals on the car need apply. Oh wait. You have red hair. Better luck next time. As they further divide in their insane game of "king of the hill"

Maybe we should just let them all shoot each other. Perhaps the rapture will come and all the fundies will vanish.

Then there truly would be peace for 10,000 years

13. The fundies are beginning to divide
A Christian friend of mine was telling me she left her church because the pastor decided there were different levels of "saved" Christians. He started asking the "lower" class of saved to go through exoticisms to graduate to a higher level. lol

15. My Gawd. Is there no end
This is so funny, and yet so true.

The Cement heads view all growth as though it was like a ladder, or like the tip of a blade of grass. If you slip, then there is a big climb ahead of you.

Under this vision, there is a singular view of the one above you. Gazing upward, I see an A**hole.

Growth is more like wandering around in a forest. Each tree represents a particular type of experience in life. Eventually, we revisit the same tree more than once. When we find ourselves in front of the "rejection tree" again, how we behave this time in contrast with how we behaved the last time reveals a rate of change, or growth.

Under this vision, there is no hierarchy; there is only stagnation or change as measured by each experience on a day to day basis.

Looking back at the Christians in my life,I see the steady decay of virtue as genuine spiritual insight is replaced with a vulgar brand of national patriotism that boils down to nothing more than "greed with a halo" when fully reduced.

Sorry for the rant, and thanks for the reply, it made my day.

10. What a treat! I just think it might be more than a food fight!
Stand back, take cover, watch over and have lots of duct tape on hand along with flashlights and all the rest of that emergency, survival gear we are supposed to have to "be prepared".

Ready, Set, GO...............
