Wolfowitz: There wasn't much we could do about it (9-11)
Edited on Wed Jun-23-04 08:15 AM by DoYouEverWonder
Q: Do you remember then the impact of the plane into the Pentagon? Or had you first heard stories about New York? What was --

Wolfowitz: We were having a meeting in my office. Someone said a plane had hit the World Trade Center. Then we turned on the television and we started seeing the shots of the second plane hitting, and this is the way I remember it. It's a little fuzzy.

Q: Right.

Wolfowitz: There didn't seem to be much to do about it immediately and we went on with whatever the meeting was. Then the whole building shook. I have to confess my first reaction was an earthquake. I didn't put the two things together in my mind. Rumsfeld did instantly.

So the Sec of Defense and his Deputy Sec of Defense, both know that two passenger jets just hit the WTC, and there was nothing they could do about it? So they just continue with their meeting?

So either Rummie & Wolfowitz are the stupidest humans on the planet or this a gross dereliction of duty?

Does this not border on treason? The key people at the DOD knew that America was under attack and they admit they did nothing?

All I can say is, it's time for them to go.

1. There wasn't much they could do about it? Well, it's about damn time
we put some people in office who can do something about something. These fools didn't even get off their dead asses to see if proper protocal was being followed. And Rumsfeld fixed it so orders for alerts had to go through his sorry senile old self. BUT he went right ahead with his meeting? This, to me, indicates that they had a big hand it what happened that day. Rummy INTENTIONALLY ignored the events that were occurring that morning. We have it straight from Wolfie's mouth.

3. I watched the hearings and it's amazing to me that they "saw it on TV"
was their comment about how they all learned something was happening.

I found that really odd. What kind of governance do we have when our Government with CIA/FBI/OSP/FAA/NORAD and Military don't know what's happening until they turn on CNN. Are they relying on CNN for how they run the country? To set their agenda? That's what comes through.

Can you imagine if Clinton's administration had said that?

I think they ignored a "chain of command" that was in place since the Cold War. There's no excuse for their not knowing who was in charge because Cheney/Rummy/and Bush through his father had to know what the "chain of command" and "notification of chain of command" was unless they either knew an attack was coming and it fit their plan (LIHOP/MHOP) or "War Games" were being conducted or they were so sloppy and disorganized they never counted on us ever being attacked so they ignored every warning while they focused on Iraq.

No matter how much they spin it, nothing makes sense about how these "experienced" government leaders reacted on 9/11. If more Americans had seen those hearings they might have had the same reaction as some of us, here. But, most folks didn't see them and won't read the transcript. They will just hear the spin. As usual...

4. I was confused when the 1st plane hit. By the time the 2nd hit, I knew
that we were under attack. I actually expected it to be much worse. I did sit here in my living room and I cried all day because there was NOTHING I COULD DO. But I don't work for Bush inc. How can these people make this excuse?
I'm thinking we should get the cast of West Wing to run the government, at least they can act like they know what they are doing.

Chimpy must've been having the same thought as Wolfy & Co. - and at the same time! He kept on reading, and Wolfy's group kept on meeting. Isn't that amazing?

I hope Michael Moore has a clip of that statement by Wolfy from yesterday - he can include it in his NEXT movie (hopefully, the title being something like, "2004: Democracy's Miraculous Odyssey").

On edit: for simplification.
